Pros

Very friendly people Depending on your manager some good opportunities to Work From Home Flexible Schedule - Get your work done mentality (not under all managers though) Excellent opportunities to learn from others You can make an impact, just requires a lot of jumping through hoops. Support teams manager really want the best for the customers

Cons

Constant acquisition of new companies and technologies with no real investment in the people that support existing technologies that are underwater. No real investment in verifying process and predictability with a product so the support teams end up working to constantly fix issues. It seems that the work to save money is shoved onto the support people to make it happen, with very little support from Rackspace as a whole. This is especially painful for some of the largest customers that need that detail to attention and pay Rackspace a lot of money for support. Lack of work life balance for those in 24/7 roles. It's nearly impossible to actually go on vacation and actually leave work behind. There needs to be a better system for these roles so people don't get burnt out and leave. Constantly have to plead to get things done in a timely manner because support teams aren't given the head count they need to support the number of customers they have.

An Excellent Place - Don't Stay too Long

Pros

Provided you put in your time, and continue to deliver, you can have a great deal of flexibility in your work/life balance If you work in San Antonio, you're in the mothership and will have nearly every resource available to you

Cons

Management can be hit or miss. This is not the place to be a new manager as you won't receive much in the way of help or empowerment. If you're in sales, your comp plan will be difficult to understand, track, and get paid on. It will also change at Rackspace's discretion. You can make money, but its a lot more luck than skill. The HR team is filled with nice people who are ultimately powerless to help you If you live/work in Austin, you need to be VERY clear during the interview about where you'll be working. Many Austin based Rackers end up riding the shuttle to San Antonio several times per week. Long story short - the first few years are really great, but once you hit 3 or 4, go ahead and start looking for your next adventure.

Pros

Able to learn lots of things quickly Get some good experience on a lot of different areas Gym is onsite and they have some classes you can take such as Crossfit, additionally there's yoga if you want Free Sodas and water at the fueling stations (break areas)

Cons

Pay - you could easily go somewhere else, do the same exact work, and make 20k more, and lots of people have left and are still leaving to do exactly this. Leadership - Tons of middle management still there even after Apollo has come in. Most not really doing anything to help Apollo - Just cares about the bottom dollar, some departments have been forced to hire part time sysads to save cost of paying benefits, so some teams have people working 4-6 hours a day versus a Racker working a full 8 hour shift like the rest of the team. FAWS Leadership - A new senior director was brought in to replace the previous one that has left. He promoted a manager into a senior management role that has ego issues, consistently micromanages his employees, and time and time again fails to see the bigger picture. Additionally, this manager does not care about his employees, workload, or customers. Attrition - FAWS support has lost ~10 Rackers this past month part due to this manager, part due to being burnt out because the workload is far greater than can be handled by the current staffing, part due to the low pay, and other reasons. Other teams have lost significant amounts of people as well to competitors that pay significantly more for the same job.
