Pros

Raftelis has a great community of people who genuinely care about the work that they do and the professional growth of the people they work with. Development leads provide opportunities to work on projects that relate to your specific interests and/or skills that you are hoping to develop and improve. Working with public sector clients of varying sizes across the country is really interesting. Managers and senior leadership are approachable and actively seek perspectives and new ideas from staff at all levels. Raftelis has made an effort to focus on DEI work and is moving in the right direction.

Cons

As with all consulting work, the project workloads ebb and flow, so it is a bit unpredictable how busy you will be at a given time. Not a major concern because managers are very intentional about workload allocations and there is a strong foundation of collaboration and support on all of our projects.

Pros

-Lots of autonomy as long as deadlines are met and your work quality is good -Lots of opportunities for junior employees to develop presentation and client interaction skills -Most of our projects require a small consultant team of 1 manager and 1 analyst which I find preferable to working on big teams -Our client contacts (mostly staff at public utilities/cities) are helpful, kind, and reasonable for the most part

Cons

-Vast majority of projects (water/wastewater rate studies) require lots of hours in Excel and begin to feel repetitive over time -Steep learning curve for new junior staff (a lot of learning on the fly and reverse-engineering others' work) -Rate-setting in California compared to other states is particularly tedious and litigious due to Proposition 218

Thank you for taking a moment to share your feedback on Glassdoor. What I particularly appreciate about your review is your insight into the life of a Consultant. There are many positives such as autonomy, learning opportunities, working within a team, etc. Just like other careers, there are challenges. We do our best to address those challenges so our employees can focus on the mission, to deliver lasting solutions to our clients.

Pros

The people here are what make it so amazing! Great work/life balance and easy to work with your manager to make sure you're not overworked in any way. Company works hard to make sure its employees are happy and getting involved in whatever they want to do.

Cons

Not a ton of flexibility with working from home.
