Pros

A fully remote company offering numerous perks and benefits. If you have a passion for travel, you'll appreciate the opportunity to assist others with rail travel packages worldwide. The role is dynamic and fast-paced, keeping you engaged with new challenges, and there is plenty of room for growth and advancement.

Cons

Being a fully remote company means you won’t see your coworkers daily, but there are opportunities to connect in person at conferences with colleagues from around the world. The organization operates at a fast pace, so if you prefer a slower work environment, it may not be the best fit.

Micomanagement with ActivTrak ruined remote work-life balance

Pros

My colleagues are the best part of my job. Everyone is courteous and hard working.

Cons

Railbookers recently started monitoring all employees with ActivTrak. ActivTrak is an extremely invasive software that determines if you are being "productive" or not based on computer screenshots, key strokes, mouse movements, tabs open on browser, applications open, and more. I now feel guilty and stressed every time I take a break from work, because if I don't reach exactly 40 hours of "productive" time in front of my screen, each week, this is considered unsatisfactory. We aren't allowed to see our own ActivTrak data, which makes trying to hit this target even more stressful. Additionally, I heard management is starting to focus more on assigning blame to those who made errors with a plan to deduct from employee bonuses. Lastly, I used to love the "work from anywhere" benefit. The company lets you work from anywhere in the world up to 6 months out of the year. Now they restricted this to only 3 trips per year. So much for visiting family and friends, working from their homes, and spending quality time with loved ones with this remote job. :/ This was a great company to work for, but unfortunately management is moving towards micromanagement.

Thank you for providing your feedback. In our fully remote company, which represents over 350+ staff in six countries and 33 US states, we recognize the importance of effective productivity measures as well as a positive company culture with amazing staff from all over the world. As a fully remote company for over 5 years of our 53-year history we have lots of tools, technology and in-person events to not only support and train our team but also to ensure we are productive with our customer in mind. To assess workload, process efficiency, and the effectiveness of our technology tools, one of the tools we utilize is ActivTrak. This is common practice among remote companies, as it can be challenging to evaluate productivity without such tools. Any staff member who wishes to view their report can easily request it from their manager. When we rolled this out over a year ago, we presented the whole staff in an open, honest and transparent way so everyone was aware. Regarding the 'Work Away from Primary Address' benefit, we recognize that this is one of the biggest utilized benefits for our team. This benefit provides flexibility by enabling employees to work from different states or countries for up to six months, which allows our staff to spend time with their family and friends or even explore places they have never been to. The limit of three remote locations per calendar year is in place to ensure a balanced approach that supports both work and personal life. It is a privilege to work 100% remote for us all. As most companies now have gotten rid of working remote and having staff go back to the office, we continue to build on a 100% remote environment while challenging ourselves to always improve support, training, onboarding and ongoing fun, positive company culture events like our RBG Global Summit or offering familiarization trips for our team to experience our products. I would love to discuss some of your points to help clarify information. Please feel free to contact me or anyone in our HR Department at 949-876-6747 or HR@railbookers.com to discuss further. No matter what, always know we appreciate you. Thank you! Ja' Net McGhee Employee Engagement Manager
