Pros

If you have performing arts experience, you may come out on top in the political theater game.

Cons

Incompetent senior leadership that are both technically and morally lacking. Stale product that increasingly is falling behind competitors. Execs are dumping resources into AI and other pet projects that completely fail to deliver results.

Pros

Rakuten is a great place to work with a strong engineering culture, supportive leadership, and plenty of opportunities to grow. Benefits and perks are solid in many regions: free meals, snacks, flexible hours, and the chance to work on emerging tech.

Cons

The company sometimes jumps into new initiatives, third-party tools or services too quickly without fully vetting long-term impact or integration plans, which can lead to half-baked solutions and technical debt down the line. Some teams report management with limited hands-on technical experience, which can impact project direction and morale.

Pros

The company has ok culture and good supportive colleagues who make collaboration enjoyable. The work itself is engaging. Teams genuinely care about delivering great results.

Cons

Executive leadership could be stronger in communication and connection with employees. Leadership tends to stay in their own circle and rarely interacts with teams on the ground, which creates a disconnect between strategy and day-to-day work. Not much diversity in leadership teams. There have been multiple rounds of layoffs for multiple years despite strong team performance, which impacts morale. Additionally, there’s a lack of effective manager training and clear career development frameworks, leaving employees without proper guidance on growth or performance reviews.
