Disappointing upper management...

Pros

The people ( NOT executive/senior mgt staff) are incredible. I worked in women's design for four years and made some of the best friends I'll ever have. Also, people OUTSIDE of the fashion industry are always impressed when they find out you work there

Cons

Nepotism! Also, I watched men get promoted and paid more routinely. No exaggeration- and Part of my role was salary and budget overview so I knew! Also, unfortunately, the folks I saw promoted again and again were some of the most disparaging and miserable, judgemental and completely evil people I have ever known... It only gets you promoted if you suck up to executive staff hardcore and/or drink the kool-aid and dress like a ridiculous RL ad from the 70s.

Pros

Amazing American brand. Ralph Lauren is a creative and marketing genious

Cons

The most non-transparent, toxic, unprofessional and political place I have ever worked. Stay away, unless you are a unprofessional, gossiping, back-stabbing, lying and manipulative person who enjoys working in an environment filled with abusive people.

Pros

hours aren't too ridiculous; vacation policy is fairly generous; employee discount (if you like their stuff and can afford it); some very nice people

Cons

The culture at HQ is very buttoned-up and conservative. Management is very, very top heavy. Senior management always seems paranoid; little room for innovation or questioning the way things are done. You will feel pressured to buy the brand to fit in, even though your salary doesn't allow it. Very high turnover of smart, young employees who don't fit with the rigid corporate culture (and find better pay elsewhere). 401k package is below average for a company of its size (6 years to be vested?!); health insurance plan is not great.
