Pros

- very values-oriented & transparent as an org., "walked the talk" - quality professional development trainings that I appreciated my first year there; did a great job especially with literacy & cultural/DEI sensitivity trainings - great organizational culture; people & management were caring & supportive. My second year management especially emphasized self-care and sustainability in terms of work in a very genuine way (first year at times it felt more like lip-service at the larger whole-org level as well as with certain PMs). - supportive, likeminded colleagues - great experience to get a feel for working in education & good PD opportunities

Cons

- Training days are long and can be a real grind. Virtual format, on the one hand, is convenient, on the other, a bit mind-numbing, especially for seniors who've already gone through the PD the previous year. - AmeriCorps/nonprofit industrial complex model--living stipend can be rough; "service" label functions an excuse for exploitatively low compensation, though RP actually gave a higher end of the stipend range & also a few other perks along the way. This model results in high variability in the team from year to year which can translate to low quality services for the community/students for AC members who experience a steep learning curve because the model results/is built on high turnover as opposed to retention, which is, of course, a much larger problem within the education system in general
