Great Place to Work

Pros

Red Ventures is a very unique company, especially in Charlotte. They have managed to keep a start-up feel as they have grown, which has its pros and cons. For those looking for increased growth opportunities, very little red tape and bureaucracy, and the ability to make a real impact, Red Ventures is a great place. You will be stretched professionally and have fantastic growth opportunities, more so than most any other company can offer.

Cons

It is a high pressure, high reward place to work. Employees are asked to manage a lot of tasks and step up and be the owner of whatever they are working on. Change is a constant, sometimes people move teams multiple times in a year and you will wear many different hats. If you're looking for a very structured 9 to 5 job, RV is not the place.

Glorified Telemarketer

Business Outlook

Pros

Lots of perks, great facilities, positive work environment and potential for excellent pay.

Cons

You will work nights and weekends, And your hours will not get better untill you prove yourself and early slots open up. For most people, this takes most people a year or two. You are, despite how they sold it to you in the interview, all the worst parts of a telemarketer. You will probably be hawking a product you dont like or believe in. You will be trained to give evasive answers to make the products sound like they are better than they are. You will grind out the same call over and over and over as fast as you can. You are not allowed to hang up, there is no "3 no's" rule, You keep pushing and pushing untill the customer buys, or hangs up out of anger or frustration. You will constantly be hounded by your manager, and yes, EVERYTHING is micromanaged. You are a number. plain and simple. They care nothing about you, and will fire you in a heartbeat. You could be the #1 agent in the company 6 months in a row with a perfect record, Model employee, etc. But make a mistake or have a bad month, and boom, YOUR FIRED, then given a little white box with your stuff in it from where THEY cleaned out your desk before you got there.

Red Ventures Response
9y
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear you had such a negative experience at RV, and we’re disheartened by your outlook on our company. It’s extremely important to us to build an employee-first culture, and we’re constantly working to improve. Recently, we launched several new leadership initiatives within our sales center designed to improve leadership training and improve communication, among other things mentioned in your post. It’s also incredibly important to us that our employees feel empowered to report feedback and suggestions internally, and we strongly encourage them to do so. We believe that total transparency, teamwork, and having the courage to pursue bold opportunities are the keys to continuing to make Red Ventures a great place to work.

Pros

Beautiful campus, most employees are great to work with, good food in company restaurants for great prices, good commissions and a very relaxed atmosphere. Commission paid on sales not activation of services which is also a big con; see below.

Cons

To be really successful in the Telco sales departments you must have no qualms about selling products to customers that you know are not going to meet their needs. Commission are paid on sales not activation of services or customer satisfaction which encourages agents to mislead customers. "Sure you will be able to stream Netflix just fine on this 1 Mbps connection." I was told by one Master Sales Agent that the secret to her success was to stop caring about customers and by another not to worry the customer always has thirty days to cancel. One even told me that to perform well he needed to check his soul at the door. The $1.00 hold on a card trick used to close sales causes overdrafts on unsuspecting customers' checking accounts. Everyday I hear agents giving false information about competitors products either out of ignorance or intentionally to close sales. Relaxed atmospheres are great bu a complete lack of professionalism is another. Constant loud conversations by team leaders and other sales support staff including the repeated dropping of "F-Bombs" in close proximity to agents on calls is often overheard by customers. Telling customers that have no internet service available at their address from one of the clients represented but can be obtained if they subscribe to DTV is encouraged even after the customer has stated that they have previously used the satellite based internet service they will be ultimately offered and hated it. Many leadership positions are filled by people with no experience outside the company. Employees put other team member's commissions in jeopardy when misleading a customer that they will get what they are looking for after they are transferred to another department.
