Fun for a time but the burnout is real

Pros

Company culture is innovative and fun. On-site perks like the cafeteria and gym are great. Remote work and PTO policies are generous. Most of the people in the company are great to work with.

Cons

Your experience is entirely localized to your team and manager. There is no standardization of process across the company or even within verticals. Leadership loves to use diversity features and woke buzzwords to appear socially conscious, yet takes no meaningful action on causes supported by employees. For example, they’ll happily do a social media spotlight on Black employees but refuse to consider adding Juneteenth to the holiday schedule. The CEO will pretend to be a leftist and then praise Elon Musk in front of the entire company. Etc etc. Team players will not thrive here. Your career goals are explicitly tied to the amount of cash you bring in, not the amount of support you provide to your team. Process improvement and tech debt mean nothing here.

Disappointing experience, to say the least

Pros

I was inside one of the publishers and Red Ventures largely left us to ourselves. It’s very hands off, if you thrive under that kind of management style. Do your work, do it well and there aren’t any issues. Excellent 401k match and fully vested immediately. Health benefits are decent. The CEO seems like a good guy, but management below him feels clueless.

Cons

A boatload of unnecessary meetings to try and stitch together phony corporate “culture.” The culture is laborious and very self-congratulatory. Stingy pay raises and zero bonuses for employees. No room for growth and promotion in my division, though that could be different elsewhere in the company.

Pros

Cheap lunch and amenities were cool (if you had time to use them)

Cons

Toxic work environment, literally will destroy your mental health.
