Hostile work environment and irrational CEO

Pros

-The pay is fairly decent -Casual work environment, between a relaxed dress code and flexible hours -A few good people to work with

Cons

There is a huge turnover rate, mainly due to very poor management. The company has gone through a tremendous amount of re-structuring, which could have been positive for the company, however it has been handled very poorly and caused a very toxic work environment. After all previous company executives and directors left, the CEO had to step in after multiple years of being distant. The CEO makes very rash decisions based off of his own feelings and emotions, not what’s best for his business. Many decisions he makes are “in the moment”, not backed by research or business goals, and your job could be at risk because of that. In multiple ways, you will be set up for failure if you’re not one of the CEO’s “favorites”. It doesn’t matter how hard you work to achieve your goals, because he will still pick favorites or replace you with someone who he “likes” more, even if they’re not qualified. He preaches about being open and rational with all of his employee’s, yet he storms into offices, yells at people, name calls and brings his personal life and drama into the work place. Not to mention, he refuses to put people in positions of higher leadership because of his “trust issues” with executives and directors, so there is very limited opportunity for growth within the company, not just for yourself, but for your department as well. The company culture has gone from a place where you wake up, excited to come to work, to a place where you wonder “what kind of drama is going to happen today”. There is a lot of going behind people’s backs to the CEO in attempts to make themselves look good and many people pitted against each other. There is obvious favoritism and whoever can please the CEO the most, get’s what they want. Overall, even though there are a few great people working to make a change for the better in the company, it is clear that things are changing for the worse, not just from a company culture perspective, but business perspective as well. The CEO does not value your contributions unless you’re one of his favorites. He has mentioned on multiple occasions how everyone in the company is either disposable or replaceable. This company has lost a lot of very brilliant and hard-working people and it’s starting to crumble on all ends because of that very reason. Find a place where you are truly valued for your work ethic, skills and what you can contribute, because you will not be valued or set up for success here.

Pros

Remote work with nice hardware.

Cons

Incredibly toxic culture. Executive leadership has no accountability, doesn’t take feedback and can’t be trusted. People are miserable in their jobs, are demoralized on a regular basis, and the CEO turns a blind eye to it all. You are time tracked with weekly reports. Terrible PTO that doesn’t recognize years worked.

Pros

Pay is decent, but only because you’re compensated for keeping quiet about what really goes on in this company.

Cons

You will lose your creative spark while working for “management” that has no clear direction for the company other than being tacky under the pretenses of being “luxury”. Also, they’ll randomly fire your entire team or manager on a Wednesday just because.
