Pros

Nice people to work with, mostly.

Cons

The list of cons is very long. That's especially true if you work at HQ in Birmingham. The bank is still trying to recover from a disastrous merger with AmSouth. The good ole boy network is in full force at HQ, with people in senior leadership who are locally well-connected and otherwise not really competent. Grayson Hall is a vast improvement over Dowd Ritter, who presided over the merger that nearly destroyed the bank. But the struggle to return to profitability and stay there has been really rough. Job cuts have been harsh and raises are miniscule. It's very tough to grow there either professionally or financially (unless you are one of the good ole boys, of course). Technology improvements have been slow in coming and there are frequent glitches, so trying to grow the consumer business is really difficult. People just expect their bank to offer great online and mobile banking, and Regions is way behind in these areas. There isn't much to like about Birmingham, either. We were glad to move away and not be part of that place anymore.

Pros

The salary and benefits are decent. Training is top-notch. Company vision above the area level is very positive. It is a good way to get into the banking industry.

Cons

This company really is the definition of micromanagement. I often find myself writing reports about reports that were about reports. If you miss a goal (many of the goals are unattainable) you will hear about it from your assistant manager, manager, market manager, district manager etc.. along with countless conference calls and reports(all this wasted time will cause you to miss more goals and continue the vicious cycle). There is also too much job overlap - branch level is currently only focusing on cold calling(we have a telebanking department) and door to door sales, which is counter-productive in today's day and age. This makes it difficult to hit our goals which are based on consumer banking. Also, the goals are always increasing, while they lower the points we get per product. It really just seems like the company is trying to get out of paying bonuses, which doesn't help morale much. Also, make sure you apply to a busy branch - they don't scale goals by branch, so if you're at a slow branch you will never hit your goals. The yearly raises are also an insult - I got the highest rating possible only to get a raise that worked out to be $13 a month.

Pros

Lots of nice people working here. Decent benefits. Sunny weather. Very affordable region. You will not be overworked. High turnover causes lots of opportunities for internal advancement. If you're lucky enough to land a position in the upper realms of middle-managment you can do almost no work and earn a fantastic living!

Cons

Have you seen financial stocks lately? Your experience depends entirely on your department. While some departments are more cohesive, I've seen high turnover and employee dissatisfaction following the acquisition of AmSouth. Zero identity. Zero culture. If you want your hard work and outstanding results to be rewarded financially - either get a promotion or take a hike! Regions is living in the stone age. Still using paper at an alarming rate. Paper is put in boxes. Then Regions pays someone to pick up those boxes for off-site storage. Why so? Because virtual storage is "not in the budget." Backwards business as usual.
