Poor HR department, low pay, high work loads

Pros

Good place to get initial experience in the medical field. Broad experience opportunities. Easy to pick up up extra shifts.

Cons

Pay - while base salaries are comparable their shift differentials are less than every other hospital in the area. Work load - I've worked in the lab and as a nurse at Renown. In the lab, the phlebotomists average about 3 times the number of draws as any other hospital in the area on their highest volume days and all areas are usually under-staffed. As a nurse they'll tell you that you'll average 4 patients at a time like most hospitals in the area, but 6 and 7 patients is very, very common. They're notorious for burning out their nurses. HR department is horrible - They're slow to set up initial interviews (probably under-staffed) then they seem to get involved in nit-picky "rule violations" that are applied selectively. I avoided them for the most part, but I witnessed the HR department target other employees. And it wasn't even employees that managers were having issues with (as some HRs will act as a shield for management). They seem to target employees on their own. Benefits - On the surface the benefits seem good and are comparable to the area, but there are some troubling anomalies. You lose earned vacation when you leave. Every other employer I've worked for paid you for vacation days you earned but didn't use upon leaving, but Renown doesn't. I'm not even sure how that's legal. They also used pay you for your unused sick time, basically as an incentive to show up, but that was taken away as well. Now the incentive is to call in sick every couple of months.
