Pros

hospital, medical environment, growth environment, encourages people to grow and learn

Cons

the 401k benefit is not competitive, also you have to wait 90 days for benefits to kick in, which is hard on employees or people changing jobs

Working at Renown is like joining the Mafia or a cult

Pros

Probably the only reason for working at Renown is the scarcity of alternative healthcare employers in the Reno area.

Cons

The top-level administration is burdened by incompetence and turf battles, and the mid-level administration is in chaos, suffering from an outrageous rate of turnover, such that no meaningful initiatives can ever be realized. In my first position there, both the division director and my team leader left within a month of my hire-in. In the second position, both the division VP and the department manager left within a couple months of my hire-in. The replacements for those two were stunningly incompetent, and when my request to transfer out of the department was blocked, I was left with no alternative but to leave Renown. My own case is just one example in an exodus of the best and most competent professionals from the organization, an assertion that I can support with names and titles. Management and HR are blind to the need for a better work environment, instead trying to stem attrition through coercive means such as contracts requiring that the worker repay the organization for training costs. If you don't already live in Reno, DO NOT come here for a job with Renown. You'll be looking to get out soon enough, but you'll be in a town with limited employment opportunities.

Pros

Staff is very friendly (other than supervisors). Flexible work hours and good benefits. Benefits start after 90 days. ER is small and easy to navigate through.

Cons

ER is too small for this size of a city. Communication and planning between floors/towers can sometimes not suffice.
