Smoke & Mirrors

Pros

They had many very intelligent people with very strong backgrounds. The office was beautiful and the perks were cool. Great food for breakfast and dinner, unlimited PTO was most often real so long as you were performing, and company outings were a good time.

Cons

The experience as a whole was smoke and mirrors. They had many people in leadership positions who lacked experience. There was a lot of office gossip and politics. Do not expect quality training, you are not setup for success, and while I was there our compensation structure changed numerous times. They did not keep their word when it came to pay. They made the commission structure so complicated that it was impossible to identify what you were being paid. They do not promote from within and they restructured the company what seemed to be once every other week.

Pros

In simple terms, this is the place to be. Personally, I've never been happier anywhere else. - This is a well-funded company that is on track for huge growth and for people to grow with it. It's an earlier-stage company but with the work-life balance and benefits of a BigTech company. People are allowed to (and encouraged to) have lives. - The people are incredibly smart and talented, and there are no egos when it comes to managing or working together. Within the engineering team, people are brilliant, helpful, and constructive. You will learn a lot in a short amount of time. - The work is incredibly interesting and rewarding (provided you are at least somewhat curious and interested in commercial real estate), and there are a lot of chances for autonomy (i.e. to work on things you find interesting/challenging). At no point have I ever felt like a cog in a machine. - The company treats its people very well. We have some of the best benefits in the industry (also had in-office perks pre-COVID). When the pandemic began, we had huge support in the shift to remote work. - Worth mentioning that the compensation is very competitive. This company understands how to attract and retain talent

Cons

Nothing I can think of besides the usual pandemic woes (even though this company handled it better than most).

Thanks for your feedback on Reonomy and the engineering organization! We’re so happy that your experience has been so positive and rewarding. One of the things we strive for throughout the organization is maintaining the “no-ego mentality” at all levels, and ensuring that the work each individual does is a growth opportunity for them and for the team they work with. Our recent expansions in our Owner Profiles are a great example of the independent work of several engineers over the past year culminating in an exciting product launch. All the while, it is important to us that everyone is comfortable and supported by leadership in their career. Regarding our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how that affects the overall company experience, we have at times struggled to connect with each other in the same ways as we did before. Our People team has gone to great lengths since the start of 2021 to educate and train managers in ways to be better remote leaders and provide resources to promote further team bonding. We respect that this has been a tough time for all and hope that the improvements mentioned will help us become an even more cohesive and strong team. - Neil Newman, Director of Backend Engineering

Pros

-A lot of seltzer in the fridge if you like seltzer! -Really amazing view of the NYC skyline. Although is not enough to distract you from your mediocre job.

Cons

-Not the best place to work if you have a family. They expect a 10+ hour workday from you everyday. If you leave before 6-7pm you will have a conversation with your direct boss as to why you feel the need to leave early. -Recruiting team is very unexperienced and hires anyone with a pulse. -Lunch runs out often, no variety either -Lots of cold calling. LOTS. -You are not valued at all -No real sense of culture -Forced to attend events I had no interest in attending

Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback and appreciation of the office, but I'm sorry to hear you're not necessarily having a positive experience here. As we continue to scale the business, we are actively investing in our management and employees, and are committed to ensuring this is the best environment for our team as possible. Regarding your feedback on working hours, family comes first and I'm disappointed to hear that you have previously had a negative conversation regarding leaving early. In all honesty, as a start-up we often have to remind ourselves to shut off “grind mode” and that should certainly be modeled by our management. We recognize the fact that our team does work hard throughout the week, and are looking into solutions to off-set some factors including opening an office on the West Coast. As the Sales team continues to grow, we are clear about the expectations regarding the typical number of phone calls per day. We host events to celebrate success and further development of our employees, and will definitely work to make attendance expectations clear in the future. Again, thanks for your review and I’d encourage you to reach out to myself, your manager, or a member of the People team if you have any further feedback. - Colin Callahan, Sales Manager
