Pros

I see no pros in working for a company that doesn’t value their employees.

Cons

ResQ is a company that often touts the slogan "do more with less," but in reality, this mantra seems to result in high turnover and burnout among teams due to a lack of adequate assistance. Despite the organization claiming to be a startup, using phrases like "maybe you can't hack it," as an attempt to cover up their lack of empathy towards low morale is not acceptable in a professional environment. Furthermore, credit is not given where it's due, and ideas are frequently taken from others without proper recognition or compensation. The management at ResQ is quick to blame teams and individuals for problems that arise, leading to heightened levels of stress and fear among employees. Instead of addressing the broken processes throughout the organization, they prefer to preach about "extreme ownership," shifting the blame to employees rather than taking responsibility for the flawed systems in place. The lack of support, recognition, and empathy towards employee morale at ResQ has resulted in a toxic work environment, causing turnover and burnout among teams. The management's tendency to blame employees and disregard their contributions, while taking credit for their ideas, is a clear indication of a dysfunctional organization that fails to value and support its employees. It's high time for ResQ to address these issues and prioritize the well-being and professional development of its employees to create a healthier and more productive work environment.

Pros

They give you your laptop before they make you leave

Cons

- lots of Turnover - sinking ship - strict engineering mentality, do what you are told vs innovation - very rare opportunity for growth - product cost is so important than investing in technology improvements.

Dear ResQer, We appreciate the time you took to leave a review about your experience working at ResQ and for recognizing a few of the shared experiences that come from working at a Series A start-up such as; wearing multiple hats, employee churn, and making tough business decisions when the market conditions change. As you know, one of our core values is to “Keep it real” and we know we aren’t perfect but we are striving to be 1% better every day. The good news is that we are investing in our People Managers through ongoing leadership training which will help them grow into great leaders and includes listening and thinking about their employee’s experiences. We are really excited about the future of ResQ and we look forward to working with you through the growing pains of this changing startup world! P.s. As a current employee, you will have heard in our All Hands that we were able to provide all affected employees with well above industry average severance package (which is ‘pay in lieu notice’), supporting many of them in their job search (some have landed their next role already!), as well as gifting everyone to keep their MacBook laptop. We never want to be a blocker to finding their next job, so we really appreciate you listing that as a pro!

Great people, poor executive leadership

Pros

- Excellent, selfless teammates and great bottom-up culture within Product & Engineering. - Great mentorship opportunities, lots of people to learn from - Market salaries at least in Product Development. - Lots of opportunities to have an impact beyond your role

Cons

- Constant strategy pivots - Extreme lack of transparency (or maybe even dishonesty) around decisions, staffing and financial health of the company - Constant executive churn, only one executive (besides CEO) remained from when I started to after I left - Below-average benefits - Executives and upper management can work from home (and from different countries, in fact one executive moved from Toronto to Florida) yet individual contributors have a mandatory 3 days in office and must live in Toronto - Investments aren't being made in the right parts of the business - Corporate values seem to just be words on the website and not something executives really believe in (this was different before the HR department was fired)

Dear Former ResQer, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us We’re delighted to hear that you appreciated the excellent team culture and mentorship opportunities within the Product & Engineering team. Creating an environment where our team can learn and make an impact is a core value for us. As a Series A startup, we are in a phase of rapid growth and development. Pivots are not optional but necessary to learn and adapt to market demands quickly. While these changes can be challenging, they are made with the intention of positioning us for future success. Transparency is a cornerstone of our values, and we strive to keep our team informed about business decisions. We’d like to believe we run a very transparent business where everything from our financials, metrics, performance, and wins/challenges, is openly shared during all-hands and available at all times through our tracking tools, that everyone in the business has access to. As you mentioned, we have had recent changes on our executive team and this was part of our strategy to bring specific expertise needed to elevate us to the next level. While this may have been an adjustment for the team, it was aimed at strengthening our leadership team to guide us through the next growth phase. Several of our executive team members are based in the USA. We believe that finding top talent shouldn’t be constrained locally in Toronto. With this, we are building out team hubs and have office spaces in both NYC, and Miami that provide our non-local team members a space to collaborate and work together. Our Management team in Toronto is at the office regularly, including our CEO being at the office every day. We are constantly reviewing our benefits and perks to ensure they are competitive and meet the needs of our team. At ResQ, we foster an office-first environment because we believe this enables purpose, through presence and proximity. The decision to have our team spend time in the office was made to foster collaboration and innovation. The effect of people building personal bonds, innovating together, collaborating cross-functionally, learning and doing things together is, at least for us, much harder to replicate to its fullest extent being fully remote. We do understand the need for flexibility and that life happens and we always support any flexibility the team needs. We’ve always been open with what to expect at ResQ and have publicly posted about our culture for anyone considering ResQ, including Why ResQ might not be a fit for someone - https://www.notion.so/getresq/Joining-ResQ-e32fcd0e5d4b4278b7f99e45004c0b2e We are committed to creating a positive and transparent working environment and appreciate your feedback as it helps us to understand what we are doing that is working and areas for development. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and for being a part of our journey!
