Product leadership has no leadership experience

Pros

Great people at the ground and director level in most teams. The work makes you really feel like you’re helping people at the end of the day.

Cons

Product team recently went through a change in leadership and former product leadership was doing a great job. They were replaced with leadership who have never been in that role, and have never had any leadership experience or direct reports. New product leadership seems to be shifting the office hours from 9am-5pm to 2pm-12:00am (or they just are showing up late, because they can). The other teams are expected to collaborate with these product team members, but they are rarely in the office due to having to do the same job for the sister company of Ria. There are no business analysts (there is one Project Manager who really is great at their job, but they’re not allowed to do their job). Employees are expected fill these gaps and perform their normal duties until the team gets to full staff, this team has never been full staff and cannot retain business analysts or project managers. There seems to be a push to fill the office with people who require a Visa and will work more hours for way less pay than market rate, which is unfortunate for those people who could make market rate at any other employer in denver

Poor culture and zero accountability

Pros

Decent office downtown, flexible schedule. Challenging product and problems to work on. Opportunity to build something interesting and potentially great.

Cons

RIA struggles mightily with a culture of gossip and cliquish behavior. It's surprising how the rumors fly around there despite it being such a small office. To make matters worse the main offenders are protected by senior management and continue to alienate coworkers and stifle productive collaboration. Additionally, meetings too often end with people yelling at someone and storming out leaving the rest of the group to put the pieces back together. It's an often tense place to work with lots of whispering about what just happened. There is also a severe lack of accountability across the organization. There's too many people protecting their 5 hour work day. Most people lack the professionalism to dig in for 8 hours and own their project and responsibilities. They lack modern software delivery processes and fight any effort to implement them. Making most choices because it's the least amount of work and not taking a long-term and future view to the product. There's very little effort with senior management to make any real and lasting change to modernise process and hold people accountable for their responsibilities and behavior.

Pros

My experience at Ria consisted of only one pro: - I met a lot of amazing people in the Denver office; people I hope I'll know my whole life.

Cons

The cons consist of the following transgressions: - A Thriving Culture of Blaming, Devaluation and Shaming Employees by Remote Offices - Ineffective and Unprofessional Middle Management in Remote Offices - Lack of Knowledge Regarding Software Development Implementation and Methodology by Remote Offices - Lack of Cohesive Teamwork by Remote Offices - Lack of Work/Life Balance - Poor Communication by Remote Offices - Promises of Career Advancement Never Fulfilled - Unprofessional Upper Management in Remote Offices
