      Pros

      Ritchie Bros provides a great opportunity for individuals to learn and understand about the heavy equipment industry. The salary is great and there are a lot of global opportunities.

      Cons

      Ritchie Bros is run by a bunch of old boys who have no business acumen. Most middle management has no formal business training, and this is reflected in their management style and decisions.

      They are a mutli billion dollar company that's corporate headquarters is run like mom & pop shop.

      Pros

      Senior management are excellent at communicating to their employees on all things Ritchie Bros. They also really believe they are doing well by their employees and seem to geniunely care about them as people.

      Cons

      The biggest frustration working at corporate headquarters is the lack of business accumen by many staff and lack of management's knowledge of best practices in business. To top it off, they seem very unwilling to call in expertise from the marketplace to help with this. Overall, this makes it a very challenging place to work because I know how much better it could run but am powerless in my position to make serious change.

      Pros

      Fun, I do something different every day and am constantly learning. It's not your typical office job; we conduct auctions and for those lucky enough to attend them it is exciting! Colleagues at work are great; like any job there are people you like more than others, but we have a great culture and I love working here.

      Cons

      Some challenges could be work/life balance, but I have found over the years that YOU are in control of your decisions. Sure there are deadlines and busy periods, but what company doesn't have that? I am a parent and feel I've done a pretty good job of the juggling.
