Pros

The company as a whole has a lot to offer. Decent culture, casual environment, average pay, ethical company and a CEO that seems to be a good guy.

Cons

I know you don't hear "Rockwell Automation" and think of cutting edge marketing, but that doesn't mean the team has to hire lower quality leadership. The Global Marketing and Communication senior leadership needs a refresh. They are creating a very hostile culture. If you're not chosen as a favorite, you are bullied or targeted for no reason. You get more points for how many projects you can load into a tool than you do for producing actual work. It's all optics to support senior leadership, helping them "look" better with how much "work" their team is producing. Senior managers should be more concerned with strategy and leadership rather than in the weeds constantly bugging employees about what they are working on. I've never known any other Senior Manager that would have the time to even care about these things - that's what managers are for. Lots of people are leaving this team and it is disappointing because there are a lot of talented and hard working individuals who are being treated poorly. Teams are forced to complete career development plans even though there is no career advancement available to them - another "optic" for senior leaders to check the box. Yearly goals are presented halfway through the year which basically make them pointless. Year end review is a joke.

Rockwell Automation Response

Thank you for providing us with feedback around your experience, and more importantly with suggestions on how we can continue to improve. It is clear that we can do better in how we communicate career path opportunities and journeys. We have a team of employees actively working on this now to ensure we do a better job of communicating skills and capabilities in specific career path ladders; the value of 70-20-10 plans; all of the types of development available and the roles of both the company and the individual in successful career development. We are proud of the fact that in the past year we had more than 20% of our function receive a promotion in role; take a new role or expanded role and /or receive a development opportunity aligned to their career plan. But, we can do better and we appreciate the advice and candid comments on how we can do so. I especially like the idea of mentors within the function and clear communication of career paths. If you ever want to chat more offline, please reach out to me directly. Wishing you the best in your future career. – Christine Spella (CMSpell1@ra.rockwell.com)
