I joined Root as New grad. I had couple of offers(even from the many big companies), I am glad I accepted this offer. - They have really friendly environment. - People are really helpful. - Initial pairing session helped a lot.

Root Insurance is hands down one of the best software engineer firms in the Midwest. The culture they have built, the learning opportunities, and the ability to move up and grow in the profession is second to none. Work-life balance is excellent, and perks such as free lunch every day are icing on the cake.

Cons

ROOT's HR and benefits departments really need to get their act together. Having worked at a few other technology companies, ROOT has presented difficulty with redeeming benefits listed in the offer letter which other companies readily hand out. Additionally, I had a bad experience with offer negotiation, to the point where I came away from the conversation feeling devalued and unmotivated.
