Pros

Some fellow employees are great to work with. Busy never bored.

Cons

Terribly poor wages for expected hard work. Terribly poor hours for employees to make a living. Some of my fellow workers cannot afford a tv. Some have to quit or not show up for work because they cannot afford to put gas in their cars. Some are forced to live at home with their parents because they cannot afford to pay normal rent. Some of the older employees have to work two and three jobs to barely make ends meet. The only real benefit Ross offers is an employee discount on in-store purchases. Most employees cannot afford to take advantage of it. Hours are being cut so ROSS will not have to abide by the new government health regulations. Everyone will soon not be able to work more than 15 to 20 hours a week at $8-$9 per hour. There are very few full- time employees in Ross' Stores except for management. Training of new employees is not efficient so when new employees are placed in their new positions they have very little confidece. Most learn by their mistakes. When management visits whether it is the regional, district, security, or upper management, who fly in on their corporate jet, have very little good to say. In fact, they never say anything. In my store they can walk through and never acknowledge an employee except for the store managers. They do acknowledge those lower titled supervisors by telling them how to improve. Very seldom is praise given. My friend, when I tell him about my work day's experience , refers to my job as slave labor.

Pros

Great management - for my store anyways. We are like a big family and they actually listen to suggestions, complaints and actually visit. They do what they can with in Ross policies or what is available. Employee discount - 20% on certain times a year its doubled to 40% Very, VERY busy. If you have ADD or ADHD, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! You never get bored and always have something to do. Decent hours. AMAZING coworkers. Like I said earlier - a big family. You can vent about frustrating customers and get it off your chest so you can buck up and take on the next one with a smile! They are normally willing to switch/cover shifts for you if something comes up, or you just want to trade days off. Fitting Rooms and registers are my personal favorite. Back in the fitting rooms you actually get to give customers good customer service. Communicate and visit so they know they actually matter. Granted the go backs may not get ran if someone has called out - but with being next to the stock room I can use more racks if I need them and just stack them up. The registers are decent for just being able to mainly stand in one place and do repeat movements. (granted you will have to rush later to complete your section - it provides a nice change in pace... or motions atleast. If you get tired or sore - this may not be the job for you. Expect your feet and arms to hurt for the first 3 weeks or so. Wear shoes that have lots of HEEL support!

Cons

Lack of anti-theft security. (e.g. more cameras, angled mirrors) Understaffed - with the high amount of customers we get daily, its unfair how few of us are responsible to clean up after the stampeeds. Strict hours. Since we are understaffed and still have all the responsibilities its a pain that the max is only 25 hours.

Pros

Some of the co-workers are all that make the job even slightly enjoyable, there honestly isn't to many Pros I can think of. The discount is fair, 20% off.

Cons

Customers are rude. Store is almost always running with a skeleton crew, Loss Prevention isn't allowed to do anything to actually stop any form of loss. Pay is terrible, hours are terrible, only 4 total full time employees in the store
