Pros

Good cause. Local Rotary members around the world and co-workers are usually a great pleasure to work with. Highly qualified, culturally diverse and motivated and dedicated staff. Good benefits and work-life balance.

Cons

Top down, mediocre and very US centric management. Rotary leadership is too old, male and white dominated.

Pros

I like the people I work with and my actual job. Benefits are very good (great health insurance options). You feel like you're making a difference in the world

Cons

Bad communication at all levels. Cowed staff members hired for their tendency to be passive and accommodating. Fear and paranoia, especially among the Foundation staff. Saying "no" is frowned upon and you're expected to do anything that's asked of you (leads to overwork and low morale). New CEO wants us to memorize a list of values and embody them. But he didn't take the time to learn the culture that already existed and nurture his new values us so they could truly take root. Memorizing words doesn't do much!

Pros

The goals and projects sponsored by RI and thousands of local Rotary clubs around the world are amazing and awe inspiring. They do numerous good works, yet do not receive much media and public attention for them, particularly in the U.S. How many organizations can claim to have done the lion's share of work---and provided financial contributions---necessary to eradicate a disease/polio?? Rotarians deserves much credit for this accomplishment, as well as their numerous other good deeds.

Cons

Often, staff that becomes too close to the Rotarian members---in the course of doing their best job possible--- are considered a threat by the majority of the-managers, who stick together and protect each other in somewhat of a high school/clique-like atmosphere. This includes workplace bullying, and intentionally manipulative and negative annual reviews to justify the termination of many excellent employees.
