Pros

At least i had a job.

Cons

A mindset that pusses deliveries ahead of safety. I was fired twice from this organization. The first time they blamed it on job abandonment when i took an approved vacation. After telling the company that this was wrong and this entire meeting was being recorded for my protection. While cleaning my truck out i was told they found my approved signed vacation request so please disregard the termination letter. The quality of the local service center is incompetent at best. Trucks that go into the shop come out with new problems, the rental trucks have almost all had to be returned right away due to problems that make them unsafe. I even sent Ryder corp in Miami complaints when truck 626863 was in the shop for over 8 weeks for what other shops informed me that it should have only taken 13 shop hours + a few days for parts.and finally came back with more problems and shaking uncontrollably. This truck went in over 3 more times until i finally refused to drive it. Ryder continued to pass this tuck to any new people or temp drivers until they finally refused to drive it. Thats a real safe practice. I had the unfortunate problem while driving down a 2 way road that when cars are parked on both sides there is only room for one vehicle in the middle of the street. A low hanging branch had ripped a hole in the Conestoga trailer i was hauling. Pulling over i took pictures of the street, the trailer, in both directions and filled out an accident report. Ryder considered it a preventable accident, (making it my fault) Weeks latter i found that the camera i used to document the accident location was never sent to be developed or evaluated. Repeating loading problems using a poor plastic wrap that unravels and trails off behind the trailer. Each time this happens i would take pictures of the length of plastic and sen it to dispatch complaining that this endangers my life when i have to pull over and remove it along with endangering all the other motorists around my truck. There are so many additional problems that i am so glad not to work for Ryder any longer. During my 4.5 years every week i would see new faces as drivers due to the high turn over due to poor management.

Pros

This is a glorified secretarial/intern position in a high stress environment. A great job for a psychopath who has no empathy. You get paid just barely enough to get you to show up for your shift, though any hope will very quickly fade away. Eventually, you get to go home at the end of the day.

Cons

1) Expect to have multiple under-qualified bosses who hate working with each other, and who are quick to throw everyone AND anyone they can find under the proverbial bus. 2) Expect to have poor communication between ALL parties, unless mind reading is your forte. 3) Ryder will offer you a "Sign-On Bonus", which is just a glorified contract to force you to remain working at that position for at least a year, otherwise you will pay a penalty. 4) You will be offered "overtime" pay, but do not expect regularly/generally understood overtime pay of 1.5/hour. It's actually a convoluted mess that pays a little less per hour, for every extra hour that you work. Expect that your "salary" will be what you earn, before taxes. 5) No movement from this position, unless ALL of you bosses personally like you AND there is a position available. Got stuck in this position for 2 years because of one or both reasons. 6) You will be assigned an online training regime that is a) impossible to complete due to the number of tasks given per hours in the week you force yourself to endure, b) no one will care about until it becomes a huge emergency situation (about 8 months after it was supposed to be completed), c) is generally not worth your time completing in the first place - such as how to sell 1 of 2 roll up doors to a customer (note: you won't sell anything to anyone in this position or any further position you might go along this career path).

Pros

They offer many opportunities for upward movement if you do a good job, also depends on the department. Gym, cafeteria, and gift shop on-site. Salary and benefits are average.

Cons

Reduction in staff done almost every year.
