We’re sorry to see that you wouldn’t recommend SCJ. We’re certainly not perfect, but we’re working hard to be a great place where people can do great work. We hope you’ll give us a chance to earn your recommendation.

Pros

Stable well known brands make up this company's core portfolio. They are privately held. Convenient location for those in south eastern Wisconsin. Flexible hours and okay pay for this area. The daycare is pricey but the services they provide are a life saver to working parents.

Cons

Currently going through downsizing and 300+ people will be let go in Racine alone. Headquarters are located in a city with the highest unemployment rate in Wisconsin. Benefits are being sacrificed to save money. Employees used to be valued but this mindset has changed dramatically in the past 10 months. It is not about what you know but who you know. It is no longer the family company of their tagline. The mighty dollar is more important than employees and the community. Right now the company is in disorganization.

SC Johnson...A not-so "family company"

Pros

Some of the perks: tuition reimbursement, generous paid holiday break (between Xmas and New Years), 1/2 day Fridays in the summer, Company resort in Minocqua, WI, Company match on 401K up to 6%, profit sharing 2x/year, discounted product at the company store, top-notch child care center and Rec Center w/pool.

Cons

Senior management is way REACTIVE instead of PROACTIVE. This caused last-minute decisions and a snowball effect of changes. Strategy seems to be lacking. The CEO (Fisk) is more concerned with the outward appearance of the campus, and business mergers and acquisitions than he is about the people of the company. His father, Sam Johnson (who is most likely rolling over in his grave), made SC Johnson the best place to work by taking care of his employees as if they were members of his own family. The direction the company has been moving in the past 5 years is a far cry from upwards... the employees are unhappy and scared and they walk around like zombies because they're over-tired, over-worked and under-appreciated. If Fisk would have quit spending money on cafeterias with airplanes built inside, and remodeling the research tower, he might not have had to lay off as many people as he did. Also - it's impossible to advance at this company (even though they paid for my education), HR is basically useless as an advocate or mentor and they all communicate with the employees like robots, it also took weeks to get answers back from HR on anything (very slow moving). Salary is competitive but nothing to brag about, insurance is SUPER expensive, On-site cafeteria is beautiful to look at but the food leaves much to be desired and is way over priced, daycare is amazing but very expensive.
