Toxic Culture Overshadows Strong Foundation

Pros

SCORR Marketing has the foundation to be a great workplace. It’s a women-led organization with deep Midwest roots and a team of highly skilled marketers and subject matter experts. The company claims strong values and shows signs of innovation—though this often manifests as chasing shiny objects rather than driving meaningful progress and results.

Cons

Unfortunately, the toxic culture deeply undermines any positives. The environment is unstable, with frequent layoffs and poor communication from leadership. Trust is lacking across the board, even in HR. Much of the leadership and management team has only ever worked at SCORR, which contributes to a lack of professional maturity, limited external perspective, and diversity. The culture encourages cliques, favoritism, and aggressive behavior, making it one of the most difficult and toxic workplaces I’ve experienced in my professional career. Feedback and concerns routinely are disregarded and brushed aside until the next problem arises. Many of the positive reviews on this platform appear to be part of a reputation management strategy rather than genuine reflections of employee experiences.

Pros

If you enjoy environments where popularity often outweighs performance, you’ll thrive in the culture here. There's a strong emphasis on fitting in—especially with the right internal circle—which can make for an exciting exercise in workplace diplomacy. The company also promotes a strong commitment to work-life balance, assuming your life revolves entirely around SCORR. While 40 hours is the official expectation, going above and beyond (think 50+ hours) is the unspoken standard for maintaining favor and avoiding scrutiny.

Cons

I was genuinely unprepared for the level of dysfunction and toxicity within the organization. While SCORR frequently promotes itself as a company that values its people, in reality, it offers only baseline benefits and expects outsized loyalty and gratitude in return. The culture is insular and cliquish. Those who do not conform to internal social dynamics may find themselves sidelined or gradually pushed out. Notably, several former colleagues, myself included, experienced a significant impact on our mental wellbeing following our time at the company. While this may not indicate direct causation, the pattern is difficult to ignore.

“We’re a family”

Pros

Nothing to note in this area

Cons

Horrible experience. People are fake and cliquey. Entire company acts as if it’s a huge agency but are stuck in small agency mentality, processes, and overall growth, severely stunting any potential. Management doesn’t communicate properly and works in silos, acting as if they want to hear ideas but never act on them. Finally, Work life balance is minimal but they speak to putting “family first” when clearly this isn’t the issue and pay for the hours asked to work is ridiculous.
