Pros

The best part about working here is the great people I work with. Very professional, enthusiastic, and proficient! I look forward to coming to work. We are a small company but we don't have the big stresses like other companies have that I've worked for. Pay and benefits are very fair and the 401k match is very generous!

Cons

The hiring process takes a long time, but I do know we do a great job at selecting quality people. Promotions are not that frequent and it takes a while to get promoted.

A Great Place To Work

Pros

This is the best company I have ever worked for, hands down. I could not recommend it more strongly. SMC3 is a fairly small, but very solid company. It has been in business for over 80 years. There is no anxiety about coming in one day and being told we've been sold to some faceless corporation or that we are going out of business. The company is very open and transparent about business dealings. Every month they put on a catered breakfast in which speakers from the company keep everyone up to date on how financials, sales, development, etc are going across the company. These talks regularly feature executives, and they are completely open to answering questions. There have been several times where I have emailed different executives, including the CEO, and I always get a timely response back. This is one of the best things about SMC3, the openness and "family" feel. Everyone is working towards the same goal and you can feel that you are not just a face in the crowd, but a person with a life both at and outside of work. Pay is fair, and performance is rewarded. In my experience, if you take on responsibility and perform, you will be promoted and given raises. It's very 'get what you give'. There is no set work from home program at SMC3, but in my experience, as long as you have shown that you are trustworthy and do what you say you will do, it is not a big deal to WFH when needs arise. Car work, house repair, whatever, in my experience your manager will work with you as long as you do your work and perform. Training - paid for and encouraged. I've never had any training that I wanted to do be turned down. The company has paid for conference tickets, hotel, airfare, etc. If you are doing something worthwhile to help yourself and the company, they are willing to help. Good benefits package - the company has eaten the raise in healthcare premiums four years in a row. Free soft drinks at work, catered breakfasts and lunches on occasions, Employee Appreciation Day once a year, where we are usually given nice gifts and taken out for different attractions and lunches around town, gifts and bonuses at Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. Flex time - core hours are 9 - 4 they expect you to give them 8 hours and be here during the core hours which exception for lunch. If you want to come in and stay late, go for it, if you prefer getting in early, great. There are a ton of small benefits to working here that really add up to a great work environment. Most of all is the people. Quality people, working for a quality company.

Cons

Vacation is set at 2 weeks a year, plus 3 floating holidays. It takes 5 years to earn more vacation. The Louisville Office, while nice on the inside is very close to an old and dilapidated hotel which is an eyesore.
