Pros
Very high 401k match, and affordable healthcare with great coverage. This company is very committed to investing in their employees, and the benefits here are much better than most other companies out there. The company is dedicated to making sure that everyone's pay is at a market rate, so you don't end up in a situation where you are underpaid after spending a few years. This is not a very fast paced work environment. Some people may like that and others may not. The benefit is that you work life balance is respected, and you won't be asked to work overtime unless something crazy happens. If something comes up, it is easy to step away and take care of things like a doctors appointment or important errand. The CEO and executive staff really cares about every single employee. They will know you on a first name basis, and you will never feel like just a number here. This company is very open to feedback and new ideas. If you're looking for stability, I feel like this company is very stable. They are the experts at LTL, and I don't see that changing. Great onboarding/training experience. Not a ton a boring computer-based training modules. The new hire training is a very interesting and interactive class.
Cons
Coming form a company with a very fast-paced work environment, SMC3 doesn't have that. Things tend to move a little slow here. Some people really like that because it's not very stressful, but I do miss being super busy all the time. There's not really anything that they can do about this. It's just not a huge company and things don't move as at the same pace in this industry. With SMC3 being a smaller company, I don't feel like there is a whole lot of upward mobility for a Software Engineer III if you don't want to move away from writing code. Everything after that tends to be more on the leadership side of things.
