Pros

Not a 0 hours contract...... Potentially a 50% off employee card, however doesnt work in most locations/items if it was even worth using due to price increases. Monthly bonus if your unit hits it's targets and you have never been a minute late or sick

Cons

Constantly variable shifts and swaps you cannot plan Employee programs and promotions are near non existant or a borderline scam/removed before you complete regional and Upper management have to approve every decision, it takes a long time to do the simplest of things if they are even done. Not paid past closing time Staff hours constantly cut back Staff privilges cut/non existant (not even allowd to make a drink on shift) Equipment constantly failing Staff members high sickness rate, many calls to cover shifts at last second Many rule, service and price changes leading to disgruntled customers Customers, you will be dealing with angry people in a rush who will treat you worse than dirt and let you know about it. Wage is minimum, possibly below if you are not paid for extra time you've needed to work past close due to staff shortages Mandatory random staff searches Increases in responsabilities but no reimbursments or wage increases

Pros

Fast paced working environment - Days go in quickly Long opening hours - Can work a different number of shifts Good team of staff - Can get along with everyone

Cons

Actual company is poor. I went from being 30/40p above min wage, to eventually being on min wage with the increases over the years many benefits were taken away over the years. You used to get a 50p/hr if you clocked in on time every shift and no sick days. Now there is a whole bunch of rules to achieve this 50p/hr bonus such as meeting budget 2 months ago, upsell target met(usually unachievable) . Used to get free food from the other SSP units on your break, but took that away. SSP will not spend a penny on improving anything unless they think it will create a return on investment at least double spent, meaning anything to improve staff happiness such as buying a water tank for the office will not be bought as it will not create them any money Constantly trying to run the company on fumes to create larger profits. Meaning a lot of the time the managers are given small wage budgets, leaving the same amount of work to be done with less staff. Staff happiness is never a concern, neither is staff retention. A lot of people leave within first 3 months of joining the company.

Pros

Money was OK, oh and you got a free meal

Cons

Senior managers had no clue. Working stupid hours to be audited by a person who would pick fault with a passport. Ridiculous rules on cashing up. Administration that wasted time
