Pros

Friendly staff, everyone says hello to you and asks how your day is going. If nominated, employees can attend a luncheon made just for their hard work. Fun holiday party with raffle prizes.

Cons

Where do I begin? They hire people just to fulfill their seasonal needs. They do not have other jobs that are available no matter how much experience you have or if you have a degree. There is no training, I learned everything through trial and error, must of it being through error. Was not provided information regarding uniforms, shown a tour of the resort, or any other basic new hire information. You constantly have to ask other employees questions to figure out things. They criticize you but do not provide any advice on how to improve. If you are not perfect, they will fire you due to the Forbes standards!! I have even been yelled at by another employee because they did not have the information either. So much for a team environment. My manager did not care about creating a friendly work environment. I was barely recognized and when we spoke in their office, the manger would read their phone and I would have to keep repeating what I said. Another time, I was sent to to do some task with a much older man I did not know in a sketchy, closed off upper area of the resort. I had never been there before and there was only an elevator to get in and out of the area. I am not saying this man would have done something to me but if he did I would not have been able to escape. That was a very off putting situation...do NOT ever do this again!!!

Salamander Collection Response

It is unfortunate your experience at Salamander Resort & Spa did not go well. Based on our engagement survey results completed last November, our employees are very pleased with their experience at Salamander. While there are some areas that need improvement, the vast majority of our employees enjoy their experience here, and there are numerous examples of employees who have been promoted to management positions. Yes, a majority of our hiring is seasonal, but we hire year round for a variety of positions, and in many cases promote our own employees into these positions. You may have not had a good on-boarding at our resort, but the training we provide our employees is outstanding, beginning with orientation. Since our goal to achieve 5 Star, we also provide training in line ups, and we conduct "audits" of all front of house staff regularly. In fact over the last year, in our Forbes practice evaluations we have scored over 90 (eligible to be 5 Star) 3 times. Our last rating inspection was a 90 and we are currently under consideration to be 5 Star. If we do achieve 5 Star in February, we will be one of approximately 85 hotels in the country to achieve this rating. Ultimately your concerns must be manager specific and not an example of how all our employees are treated. And finally, in the future you may want to visit the HR department to express your concerns so you can be assisted. Again I'm sorry for your negative experience.

Pros

the pay is pretty good, especially in overtime.

Cons

they dont care about you at all. The guest treat you really bad and management tells you you cant defend yourself or anything. you are basically a slave for them. they dont care about your personal days or time off request. I literally told my boss I had to go back to school on a certain date and let her know when my last day of working for the summer would be both in the interview and again when working and then filled out the days off forms She didnt care and scheduled me anyways. I worked over 4o hours a week so I got good overtime and ranked in some cash but it was torture working there where the guest are so rude and entitled snobs.

Pros

Really can not think of a Pro of this company

Cons

They continually would request a talent experience outline with your goals yet never give a clear path to achieve the goals with them. The quality of the resort I worked at went down under their management. I did help the new property and it was very nice near DC but you can tell they put all their attention into that property and neglect others. The resort I was at had bed bug issues in numerous units.
