Pros

They buy lunch sometimes, pay is higher than most contract switchman

Cons

Management sucks, 1001 safety rules but still has dozens of accidents, young inexperienced people in leadership roles while experienced employees sit back seat.

A challenge to grow

Pros

The pay is great especially after unionizing, before organizing, the pay was very low, especially for the part of the country we work at. The benefits are great but they are only offered to union members therefore the rest of the company doesn't have our $0 deductible/low premium Teamster health insurance. We get 24 hours of sick pay every year, again only because of unionizing. Actual Savage benefits are that they offer profit sharing and they match 50% up to 8% on your 401k, Holiday Pay, 1 Personal day, 4 weeks max PTO after 10 years.

Cons

No performance bonus or safety bonus, the safety bonus was taken away company wide under false pretense, OSHA wrote a statement clarifying that they are not against Safety Related Bonuses. My operation, even though our performance is top-notch and our safety record is great and we do a very DANGEROUS job, does not have AD&D Insurance, Short-Term Insurance, Long-Term Insurance, the company took those away from us after unionizing because we forgot to include that in our contract and instead of them doing the right thing they ignored our pleas. Sadly my experience has been that this company will take advantage of you unless you have a voice like a workers union to help you out.
