Pros

Save the Children supports children around the world

Cons

Benefits/policies directly contradict the science and evidence, along with the very principles of Save the Children. Examples: Parental leave benefits are inhumanely minimal and ultimately put young children and mothers in danger. Policies are applied haphazardly. It's unclear who gets to work from home, who gets comp time, etc. This dynamic has made favoritism rampant at work.

Please let us know where you are... this board is for Save the Children US and our Parental Leave is by far the most generous in the industry... We offer paid vacation, sick leave AND 10 days of paid family leave, and have added additional leave to care for a child with a catastrophic illness....

Pros

There are no pros for this organization.

Cons

No research done into background of upper-level management hires. Complaints to HR left unresolved. One HR rep lies in employee reviews and employees have no recourse.

Forrtunately, your claim regarding background checks is quite inaccurate. Save the Children conducts very thorough references AND background checks into ALL hires, because we take the safety and security of children AND our employees very seriously. We also take the integrity of our employees quite seriously, and if you've encountered behavior that is not upholding this standard, you should immediately escallate your concerns to the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Debbie Pollock-Berry. She will absolutely make time to hear you out.

Great Mission - Bad Career Move

Pros

A great mission and flexible work schedule. A lot of "Career training" available. If you need a flexible work schedule this is the place - for a while. Competitive salary for a non-profit. The underlying desire is there among most employees to really make a difference in the lives of children and tends to attract some very smart and interesting people.

Cons

Terrible Senior Management, No Career Movement, Participation in "Career Training Programs" ultimately leads to no career movement. Many of the Senior management tend to create an unnecessarily competitive environment which lead to a tense working situation. The struggle to be recognized among mid managers lead to an almost impossible environment for teamwork and ultimately very unprofessional behavior. To anyone who both wants to make a difference and is also career oriented, Save the Children is a mixed bag. Yes its a great mission. Unfortunately the organization is a career killer and most of the talent realize this after a few years and jump ship to other organizations. Senior management accountability is almost non existent.
