Pros

I have worked in many professional services organizations. Most will go out of their way to "invent" a new service to solve a client problem and generate revenue. Schellman focuses on on being the best at IT security, audit, and compliance and we only recruit people that are passionate about and experienced in these areas. This has allowed us to grow at a very fast pace by proving a focused set of services at a quality significantly greater than Big 4 can provide and other niche firms can mirror. Additionally, when assessments is the only line of business, there are no "loss leader" projects where Schellman undercuts its fees in hopes of generating additional product or services work. That approach never works out for employees or clients.

Cons

If you do not like to perform technology assessments, this is not the place for you. Clients expect personnel at all levels to be experts. While a CPA firm, Schellman is more like a law firm and managers and those aspiring to move up in that direction need to understand that rolling up your sleeves is a reality at all levels.

Pros

The culture is incredible, and I've never been surrounded by so many talented people that are so willing to be the best they can be for their clients and team members. Even though there is a ton of work to do, the work/life balance is still great. Management has a keen focus on the employees and their personal development and growth. Policies and procedures are consistent across the entire firm, and everyone has a voice to affect changes to them when necessary.

Cons

The biggest is a con that most companies want. We can't keep up with the demand for our services. The formal orientation process is also still in its infancy, but it's improving.

Pros

I joined BL 2 years ago from one of the major public accounting firms and have quickly noted that there may be too many positives to list but here are some of my main takeaways: - ZERO time reporting: allows seniors and managers the opportunity to focus on delivering work rather than administrative tasks - Less time on the road: work from home every Friday (no weekend travel) - International travel opportunities (only if you are interested): in less than two years I've been to Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean multiple times with Australia and S. Africa on the horizon - Talented co-workers: no college new hires at BL = everyone brings a great knowledge base and relevant experiences to the table - Annual corporate party (past destinations I've attended include Cancun & Las Vegas - employees are allowed a +1) - Accessibility to all seniors, managers, and partners (tight knit group that keeps in contact regularly) - Probably should have been #1 but the pay and bonuses blew my former public accounting firm out of the water! - Ability to live in or move to just about any major city in the US: I recently moved across the country with zero issues or "red tape" issues with management

Cons

- If travel is a concern this should be voiced during an interview. Certain cities do not require as much travel as others due to the amount of local clients.
