Pros

The company takes pains to value its people and the compensation and benefits show it. The company regularly improves benefits rather than claiming victory for holding steady or only reducing them a little. The work is challenging and worthwhile. The top leadership has both vision for the future and a willingness to take input from the rest of the company to shape that vision. People are professional, hardworking, and friendly. Most people want to do what's right vs. what's expedient. There's a strong sense of camaraderie, even between colleagues who don't know each other very well or don't see one another often. Others will respect your work/life balance boundaries.

Cons

We're growing very quickly and need to be careful not to let that adversely affect the culture or the ability to communicate and work together effectively.

Pros

Schellman is definitely the best place to work and build a future. The leadership at Schellman truly values, respects, and listens to each employee, and they make the learning and growth of each employee a top priority. The benefits package illustrates the extreme value Schellman has for each employee and improvements are constantly implemented to ensure that every employee has the tools needed to maintain the work / life balance.

Cons

Due to the extreme growth the work load can be a challenge at times. However, I will follow that up by saying that improvements are constantly being implemented at Schellman. Currently their are a number of key large scale improvements that are currently in the process of being implemented to greatly improve efficiency and enable scalability for continued growth.

Pros

One obvious great thing about Schellman is the benefits package--my healthcare is fully paid for (nothing out of my check since I have no dependents) and it's a great provider, two weeks off at Christmas, quarterly bonuses, an unprecedented 401k match (in my experience), and of course, the company trip which is like a free vacation. The firm does try to accommodate a lot where employee preference/comfort is concerned, which is a rarity in corporate America. You definitely aren't micromanaged in your work, but I've always found it pretty easy to get in touch with leadership when I needed to. And there is plenty of opportunity to accelerate your career if you're willing to make extra effort to stand out. Upper management is even more active about getting feedback these days too. Lastly, diversity is not just "kumbaya, yay everyone" here. We have events that let us have the difficult, awkward conversations about real difficulties some of us have in life and in the workplace. It's still a work in progress, but it's more initiative than I've ever seen at my other jobs.

Cons

I think it's great that Schellman always tries to be flexible and open to beneficial change, but sometimes we accelerate beyond our means. That has left us understaffed at times. We've also let underperformers to continue to underperform. There's doesn't seem to be a plan to help them improve, which can be frustrating for the rest of us because the work still has to get done by somebody.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a thoughtful review! We appreciate hearing about your personal experience. We are proud of the benefits package that continues to improve each year including additional time off for all employees; methods for employees to provide feedback; and employee coaching. We are growing quickly, which presents some challenges. This year we are adding many new positions to address understaffed areas. Based on your feedback regarding underperformers, we will review our appraisal process for areas that can be improved. Our team members are encouraged to reach out to executives or provide further feedback to feedback@schellman.com.
