Pros

1. Great location. 2. I think their corporate mission is great - focusing on kids to help them read, learn, and grow. 3. Although clueless, I think upper management tries to do the right thing.

Cons

1. Middle management is intensely political and could be petty. 2. HR is a nightmare. 3. While I was there, IT had embraced "Software as a Service" as a model for everything, without consideration for when SaaS was appropriate and when it was not. This led to application access slowness and frustration.

Pros

I've been with the company for several years, and I love what it stands for. the president of the co. loves to read and believes in what reading can do to improve the lives of kids. I am a hard worker, and I have been rewarded for my work here. If you put in the work, you will be rewarded. But don't expect to come in and do nothing. This is a very lean company, and every employee contributes. Salary and benefits are competitive. Very mission-driven company.

Cons

The company is very lean, so be prepared to work, and if you want to advance, you have to learn a new skill. You don't just get promoted for showing up every day or based on seniority. Things change frequently, and there's always a lot to learn that's new.

Pros

- Great work-family balance. - Little work-related pressure to perform (pro for the empoyee, but bad for the company) - Pretty good benefits. - Friendly environment.

Cons

- The IT department became very poorly managed ever since they lost a great CIO mid-2002. - Professional advancement became impossible unless you were an unscrupulous political player, which inevitably led to decision-making positions being held by largely unqualified personnel. - A phrase often used by IT staff: "too many chiefs, not enough indians".
