Pros

I honestly feel like this company is dedicated to treating its employees well. On the whole, great benefits package, room for advancement, and work-life balance. Although with 10+ years at the company, I know that each area is treated differently depending on management. I've had great bosses and bad bosses. Most of the negative reviews here are from either Claims or Sales which are very high pressure jobs by nature. Very financially stable company that is geared toward tech and customer service improvements.

Cons

As with all insurance companies (maybe all big business?), there appears to be the good-ole-boys club mentality. Seemingly unqualified men are promoted ahead of women. There are no VPs in any of the critical insurance operations - claims, IT, investments, etc., even though the company is comprised of more than 50% women.

Pros

The people there were the best part. When I left, that is what I missed most.

Cons

This position was tough because to company refused to hire enough claims personal. It was also tough because the company was in Wisconsin and the culture did not mesh well.

Pros

Benefits, company car, 6% match, home office, flexible schedule.

Cons

Really disconnected from how the world of insurance (and sales) really operates and doesn't care. No concern at all if they're competitive. May be fine for Sentry, but not okay for my long term financial outlook. Required to be specialist in 4 major areas. Commercial insurance is not really all that different than other products but yet they charge significantly more. 401k is a cheap facsimile of other major carriers. Group benefits are significantly less desirable than other major competitors. Life insurance portfolio is ridiculous and about 30-40% more than competition. All positive reviews are from new employees (pretty sure that 2.9 star average would go WAY down if you took out all the reviews made in the first 6 months of employment!), people in Stevens Point, WI, or individuals who need to validate for themselves why they're still working here. Company is located in Stevens Point, WI and thats about 90% of the issue. What kind of real talent can you attract to live in Stevens Point, WI?!! This place is fine to get licensed and to learn a little bit about the industry, then it's time to get the heck out and find a real insurance sales job. Save yourself some time and grief and just avoid them altogether.

We appreciate your feedback and take the input of our current and former associates seriously. At Sentry, our salesforce plays a critical role in our organization—one we don’t take lightly. As a sales associate at Sentry, you’re not just selling a product, you’re providing industry-leading service and expertise—that’s what sets us apart from our competition. We understand that this can be challenging, and we encourage you to reach out to your division manager, sales director, or me directly to discuss additional training opportunities or provide deeper insight into your situation. Regarding our location and associate population, we’re proud of our Midwestern roots, our home office in Stevens Point, and all of the extremely talented associates we have in Stevens Point, as well as those working in our 15 field offices throughout the country. No matter your physical location, we promote and support an open, collaborative, positive culture, and want to help you—and all of our associates—succeed. Thanks again for your comments.
