Pros

Free coffee? A chance to gain general experience as an attorney. Some good colleagues.

Cons

Other reviews cover in detail the broader set of problems at this firm. Branding as a "different" type of law firm that utilizes six sigma and similar management philosophy from the broader business world is just a veneer. In practice, the firm is a poorly managed mid-market firm attempting to beat bigger and better big law firms on price. The general dishonesty or lack of consistency with the values of their marketing campaign may be the explanation for the blind eye turned towards the unusually high number of sociopaths and bullies lurking in this firm. I have rarely encountered such a toxic and unpleasant place to work. There is little cohesive vision and the firm lacks any real leadership or values.

Pros

Pay is on par with other large law firms of similar size.

Cons

Very toxic culture with extremely poor oversight at a higher level. Work/Life balance does not exist here unless you are lucky enough to work with a partner able to protect and ensure good management. Advertising about progressive technology and innovative approaches such as "LEAN" are a total fiction created for the sole purpose of selling the same old work to clients.

Pros

Great job for recent graduates that need experience with a legal firm or are trying to figure out their career goals and need a job to keep them occupied. Friendly and approachable co-workers and in-house counsel; they will take the time to explain the immigration process to you and why we do what we do. You gain a lot of experience in a short amount of time; it improves your organizational/communication skills and you learn to work under pressure with a high volume work load. OT is very likely to happen so extra money! And management does not give you a hard time about it.

Cons

Time-keeping sucks! As a PL you are a time keeper, so you have to input everything you do during office hours (even sending a 2 min email) and if it does not match up to 8 hrs, it gets questioned. Also determines your bonus. Covid - firm did not offer hazard pay and did not provide monitor, laptop - nothing during WFH. "Post" covid - made everyone come into office full-time, despite ALREADY self-purchasing the at-home equipment and learning to work efficiently from home for over a year. AND we're still in a pandemic. SLA's (deadlines) are almost impossible to meet especially with the HUGE case load you will be subjected to. PTO is provided...but not encouraged bc of the mass amount of work. Main takeaway: Professional growth maxes out quickly. Honestly, you can learn a lot in 2 years at Seyfarth; you will then be able to find better opportunities that offer a salary twice the amount you started with at the firm. DO NOT GET COMPLACENT. KEEP IT MOVING.
