Stay Away - Fact: No one leaves on good terms

Pros

Building is heated and cooled. Water and coffee is available for staff. You are allowed to take vacation on occasion.

Cons

Fact: this company had over 60% turn over annually for the past three years at their corporate office. Fact: the CEO took the position three years ago. Fact: the company has let go of so many people that they now have to "make deals" with people when they let them go so they reduce the number of people that claim unemployment. Fact: the pay at this company is well below industry standard. Fact: your success or standing in the company can change as quick as the wind. Fact: the workplace is toxic and future employees should really think through taking any position at the corporate office.

Pros

Over the last several months I have read the cynical rants of individuals trying to desecrate this outstanding company. Their unfair and ill warranted reviews paint a picture of deception. Well I am here to help clear the air with facts. Fact One: There is nothing more important to all employees of ShelfGenie than the overall success and happiness of our franchisees. Something that was instilled in all of us since being hired into this company. Who was responsible for this way of life; the CEO. Before I move on, I would like to address the many rude and ridiculously false comments about upper management in particularly those on our CEO and COO. Do they make mistakes, absolutely they do. Seeing the remarks of former employees (which in all actuality is not hard to guess why they are no longer employed) on this site are proof of those mistakes. However, both are smart talented individuals that care very much about the livelihood of all employees and their franchisees. They are driven and demand excellence from themselves and others. They are not shy with giving feedback or advice when asked. Not once have I ever heard either call or describe an employee or franchisee in a negative condescending manner as some reviews indicate. I have this to ask to the persons who would write such a remark, if you have to lie to drive home your point what type of person does that make you? I wander what mistakes you made or what you could have done better? Something you may want to ask yourself. My guess is there is a bitterness because upper management had to make the decision for you and give you an opportunity to be successful somewhere else because of your own inability to effectively perform (which sounds more like a personal problem). Fact Two: The culture here at ShelfGenie demands that you perform and do what you say you’re going to do. I know a complicated concept. Since we are a rapidly growing small company and as such our work load is ever changing with lots of it. As an employee our mistakes will typically be noticed but if you are able to accept responsibility and learn from them then your more than likely to be rewarded then criticized. Fact Three: Our noble purpose is very much alive and well within the culture of ShelfGenie. To insinuate anything different would also be a lie. The dedication of ShelfGenie employees sets a precedent, as they are willing to go the extra mile if necessary and without being asked. Overall ShelfGenie is a company that has a consistent and constant changing environment were mistakes are celebrated rather than not being tolerated. We are a small company where there is much to do with little time. Challenges are always present with accountability being upheld. Definitely not for everyone but for those that actually want to make difference in lives our franchisees and our clients than this is the place for you.

Cons

This company will not tolerate being just okay or good at something. We desire to be exceptional and in doing so we have a work ethic that will rival most. The pace is challenging and tough but the reward is satisfying. Entrepreneurial thinking is a must but is also a concept that is often misunderstood. We don’t have departments we have businesses and as such you need to have that mind frame to be successful. Looking at the reviews, you can see plenty that did not understand this concept. They blame and play victim very well instead of looking at themselves to make improvements and move their business forward.

Don't.Do.It!

Pros

For the most part, they hire great people who work their rears off! Most of the Franchisees are amazing and just want to be successful in their businesses.

Cons

Senior management (CEO, COO) are awful! They make a big hoopla about how extensive their hiring process is, but they don't respect or have confidence in any of they people they hire. Behind closed doors words like "dumb, stupid, idiot" are used to describe employees. CEO is rude, condescending and thinks he knows all the answers. He constantly tells staff to "update their linked in profiles"... WAY TO PROMOTE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT! COO will pretend that she is amicable with everyone, but same thing goes....she thinks everyone is an idiot, but can't do half of what they do. She lacks experience in running any kind of business. They "encourage" people to realize that they are not a "good fit" for the company and to quit or be fired. Many of the people that were hired Jan 2016 are already gone. They realized the place is one big mess. The main drive there is money, although they claim to have a "noble" purpose. No appreciation for employees, no genuine care and concern, no opportunities for advancement. They will always look to the job market for new employees to later fire. If you make it a year, you are amazing and should pat yourself on the back. Everyone there is in fear of getting fired. CEO has temper tantrums and will yell at employees like a disruptive child. They will schmooze and put on a dog and pony show for Franchisees during the two annual conferences, trying to cover up the discrepancies in the office, but the Franchisees aren't stupid. There is no work/life balance. If you are on vacation, be sure to come back to a mess no matter how much preparation you try to do beforehand to avoid it. They hire "experts" and pay them thousands of dollars to tell them what to do because they have no direction.
