Pros

I love working with the patients no matter how tough they can be to deal with. Sometimes they can be dangerous but the experience was worth it.

Cons

The morale here is low and there is good reason. Staff is underpaid for the amount of work we do, nobody gets along with anybody and it seems as though those who get paid more work less. It can be very overwhelming at times due to the nature of the work and there is very little break. There are times when we are so understaffed that the unit is unsafe. You cannot run a unit with four staff and four 1:1s and expect it to work out. It is is dangerous and most likely illegal, and if it isn’t it should be.

Pros

- Get to work with challenging teenagers and have a varied schedule (everyday is different) - Have paid time off based on 12 month long school calendar. You get 25 days off in a year. - Compensated for snow days - Annual pay raise each June could be from 2% to 11% - Working with the students was rewarding and delightful

Cons

- No appreciation for EAs. Teachers from other programs tend to disrespect them as well. - Staff are immensely cliquey with each other - Majority of staff are rude and lackadaisical. Barely show interest in student's well being and never complete paperwork on time, which left competent staff to pick up their slack. - Staff incompetence is rampant and never punished by management - No opportunities for growth or professional development, nor any promotion of such - Ideas to management on improving the well being of our students is either ignored, denied, or agreed yet never enforced - Complaints never got resolved and got worse over time - Terrible parking

Pros

Love the patients, love my coworkers, love getting up and going to work every day -- very challenging and rewarding place to work, and for an entry level position just out of college, it was perfect for me. Now that I am returning to school to become a medical doctor, however, the hours are not manageable with my school schedule and supervisors are reluctant to work out a fixed schedule for school.

Cons

Hospital is perpetually understaffed; people come and go very quickly (high turnover rate among staff); frequent mandation, so I end up working 60+ hours per week when I was hired for 40; also, the pay feels too low for the amount of work we do...we are part of nursing staff and so are in constant contact with patients, providing support and mediation, crisis intervention and positive reinforcement; we run groups, etc. Our pay is between $21,000 and $25,000 a year, though. It is an entry-level position so we are discouraged from taking sick days; if you don't have PTO you have to go without pay for that day. Also they don't really care if you have family emergencies -- you will be fired if you choose to leave in such circumstances. Also, not much room for growth.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback! Mental Health Workers play a very important role here and are an integral part of the treatment team. I encourage you to reach out to Human Resources so we can learn more about the challenges our direct care staff face. Please feel free to contact Abbie Cornblatt, Recruitment and Employment Manager or Meghan Richards, Employee Relations Manager to discuss any of your concerns in person. Thank you again for your review!
