Don’t work here

Pros

Half day fridays, that’s it.

Cons

-CEO demonstrates disgustingly abrasive language and maltreatment of employees which is tolerated by many of the highest in the company aka her yes men. -The CEO uses public slack channels and company wide meetings to verbally abuse and embarrass her staff. Some examples? Calling an employee the “R” word and incompetent on a company wide call. -CEO changes her strategy and goals every month therefore causing hysteria and chaos and stress amongst entire staff -The company is so disorganized and disconnected that everyone is overworked, often working on projects that get killed for last minute change of direction. -Your mental health will deteriorate here. -Turnover at this company is so high… from people constantly quitting to get out of there for their mental health and from the CEO impulsively firing people for BS reasons.

Only work here as a last resort

Pros

None. If there are any positives, they are quickly overshadowed by the negatives.

Cons

All the other reviews here are spot on. Jo, the CEO, is the worst manager I have ever witnessed. She did some of the development on the product 10+ years ago and feels this qualifies her to be a technical architect today. It doesn't But, she will still micro manage you and your technical decisions and be quick to tell you how easy things are, how she can build it herself and it shouldn't take you so long. It's easy to build things quick when there is no documentation or tests of any kind. The only developers who have lasted at that company are there because they have learned to always say yes to Jo. Eventually she will get distracted and leave you alone for a few months. Just brace yourself for when the hot potato lands back on you. All the other competent developers who take a job at ShipperHQ start looking for a different job immediately, and leave first chance they get.

CEO makes this job tough

Pros

The company, the people you work with, and the product are cool concept and it's an exciting industry.

Cons

The CEO has aspergers, which makes her very difficult to work for. She will say things without even considering the impact of her words and often it is very nasty. Unfortunately, this becomes an impossible challenge. You either find out how to deal with it so that it doesn't impact your own mental health, however this will likely get you fired. The work is hybrid, so you'll spend 2 hours in your car twice a week doing your best not lose it.
