Pros

mostly friendly atmosphere.....if you do your work you are pretty much left alone provided your manager isn't a micromanager good benefit and 401k with matching up to 5% of salary

Cons

low bases pay....they prefer to promote polishers to jewelers because they can get away with giving them a $1-3 raise with the promotion.....they have different skill levels for jewelers (master, a,b,c) , but in reality a C-jeweler can expect to be asked to perform the duties of a A-jeweler on a fairly regular basis. However, once you become a C-jeweler it's pretty hard to get promoted. They usually throw excuses at you such as budgetary constraints and how you need to maintain certain standards. THIS COMPANY ONLY PROMOTES YOU WHEN IT'S CONVENIENT FOR IT.

Pros

Great business wonderful people at least in Dallas and growth potential

Cons

Leadership lives in the past everything is focused on Akron OH. People are promoted based on seniority not skill and leadership potential. Everything Kay is great everything Zale is considered substandard. Lack of collaboration. They say it in their values but don't live it. They also talk about respect but treat employees like servants. People may have the title of VP here but they are no better than a director in any other business. They won't even know people posted to glassdoor because they only tell themselves and the leadership what they want to hear.

Pros

On the job training. The company doesn't want professional clericals and polishers. There is a definite drive to teach employees a trade. Regular promotions. If you are competent and especially if you are willing to work different locations it is pretty easy to get promoted. It's never boring. With the recent Zales acquisition the shops have more jobs than I have ever seen. There is a constant flow of things to work on and skills to practice.

Cons

Schedules are pretty demanding. You might work four 10 hour days one week and then have 40 hours spread across six days the next. Overtime varies from shop to shop, but it certainly will be expected during the holiday season. The vast majority of the sales team is clueless with regards to repair. You will be expected to catch and rectify their mistakes. With a half dozen (or more, probably more) stores assigned to you and however many associates they each have it becomes a hassle when many of them are inexperienced or overburdened and can't fill out a repair ticket properly. You screw up? You fix it. They screw up? Yeah, you'll be fixing that too.
