Pros

Good compensation initially. Great bonuses in good years. The business leadership is very talented and far ahead of the curve. After working here, you will really appreciate almost any other company.

Cons

Terrible "work life balance". As commented on in another review innovative thought is not only frowned upon but actively discouraged. Completely differing cultures in differing areas within the company. As also mentioned, the IT group is mired in favoritism, fiefdoms and politics. The technological level of the company is quite primitive, and ludicrous for a company of that size. The smug arrogance of some of the managers is laughable once outside their influence, but horrific if working for one of them. Limited or no negative feedback from their subordinates though as they are quickly approaching their coveted 100% H1B or offshored goal.

Pros

Silicon Valley Bank is the market leader in providing banking services to venture capital backed technology and life science companies and venture capital firms that back them. SVB has a very strong brand, platform, and network of relationships that differentiates it from other banks and makes it relatively easy to sell to venture backed companies or those aspiring to be venture backed. Relative to other commercial banks, SVB can be more entrepreneurial and is willing to take some venture risk. SVB aspires to be a great company and a great place to work. The benefits are very good.

Cons

SVB is sometimes drunk on its own Kool Aid. Rapid growth has probably placed the bank in a situation where some policies and infrastructure is lacking for an oranization of its size. Career development and opportunities for career advancement are limited outside of divisional headquarters.

Pros

Good compensation, company is in a growth mode, innovative business. Very good benefits, including home loans for execs. Good bonus payouts in years the company is doing well. Good Board of Directors - smart savvy people who are interested in the Company...

Cons

Long hours, bad culture, passive-aggressive people. Thinking outside the box is not encouraged at all - Senior Management not very coordinated. Their talk is different from their walk - especially the CEO, Ken Wilcox. The IT sucks - no access to latest technologies like access to Messager, internet email etc.. .. There is a lot of favouritism and fiefdoms's exist in almost all departments. Only reason for working here is that the COmpany is doing well even in a bad environment.
