I wasted two years of my life!

Pros

The only good thing about working at Skycatch was the free Chobani. The total lack of direction and constant shifts in strategy made it acceptable to accomplish nothing.

Cons

There were a few things that really stood out: Trying to remember what lies we were telling clients so that we did not look foolish. Knowing that everything we were working on was a complete waste of time because the decision makers did not know anything about construction, survey, drones or data.

Thank you for the note. We don’t pretend to be construction or surveying experts. As much as we love the construction space our clients come to us for capture automation, data processing and most importantly, our ease of use. Those are the key areas of focus and purpose the company was founded in the first place, so we’ve been actively working towards making that a lot more clear. I'm not aware of lies, so I can’t really speak to that. If someone did lie it wasn’t part of our strategy or directed by me or the leadership team. I hope the experience you acquired at Skycatch was more valuable than eating our free snacks and you were able to secure a great opportunity. CS

Cool products, unfocused direction

Pros

The team is very strong overall. The company has hired talented and passionate people in engineering, product, sales, and ops. There's a dedicated group of employees who want to see the company succeed. The products are used by clients and the company moves fast to satisfy new client demands. It's a great place to learn how a startup functions.

Cons

There's high turnover especially among senior staff because of micromanagement. The company direction is always changing which makes it hard to make an impact. Critical functions sometimes get held up over indecisiveness from the top. Too much focus on image and not enough on selling. The team makeup is also unbalanced, way too many hires in uncritical positions and not enough in needed roles.

Thanks for your message and thanks for the feedback. What keeps the wheels moving for a startup is funding from investors, that's just a reality a startup has to live with until it becomes profitable. What makes a company profitable is consistent and repeatable sales. In a nascent market that's harder to achieve, but not impossible. It is easy to assume "any" sales is good for the business. Unfortunately, that's not how startups work, you have to have "good" sales, in order to move the business forward and create a good outcome on the fundraising side. Also, It is easy to assume every lead that comes our way is a lead worth spending time on. Spending the least amount of time on leads that may not go anywhere is extremely hard to do, but essential when you operate with a small team and a very small budget. These are all things you only learn when you are front and center fundraising or selling. Until you have that experience it is difficult to place that into context or appreciate the push back on chasing bad deals. Our business model has been changing and evolving and that's common in an industry moving as quickly as ours. The only real sales we've had are built on strong partnerships. Nothing else has given us real results. Many times we waited too long to cut bad deals. It is a painful process, but necessary in order to stay alive and remain attractive to investors. We are still growing and learning, no one has a special recipe, but we are closer than most. Everyone has an opinion though and that's ok. We are one of the leading drone companies in the world because we understand how to work with clients, we hire and retain amazing team members and we are constantly learning and adjusting. Also, we caught the interest of some of the best and extremely successful entrepreneurs / investors in the world because they liked our strategy, they appreciate our approach and they love working with our team. Even at the board level "sales" is not what we discuss, we discuss distribution, partnerships and making sure we have a solid business model that represents growth. We are still figuring things out, so long as we are innovating we always will. Thanks again for the feedback, I really appreciate it. CS

Pros

- Really smart, supportive, humble, and driven team - Extremely interesting and exciting products - Building a new market doesn't happen very often; it's extremely hard but extremely exciting - You get amazing opportunities to step up and own new, big initiatives - Management steps back and lets you really own things (opposite of micro-management) - CEO is extremely loyal and supportive to everyone. Yes, he has gone through his own growing pains, no doubt. But it's a startup, everyone is growing, and this company is extremely supportive of anyone looking to grow. It's actually the key to success. If you're looking to just go through the motions and keep doing what you've always done, you should look elsewhere. It's a shame to see so many negative reviews on here. My experience has been and continues to be amazing. If you like: super tight team + brand new technology + extreme challenge, then Skycatch is the place for you. If you want comfort over winning, then you should look elsewhere. And also look outside of the drone industry, as it's a bumpy ride everywhere due to being an entirely new market.

Cons

- New market means lots of ups and downs, so you have to be excited about that and not scared or annoyed by it.
