Great place to work if you're white

Pros

Have good friends here, the product is good, and the customers are great.

Cons

Work life balance does not exist and account overload is real. Strategic messaging is usually better than actual strategic decisions. Frustrating working with slow teams that don't have enough members. Mostly privileged white people make up the sales and customer success teams. Disappointing to see this in 2020. They feel comfortable being insensitive in open floor plan office all the time. Have brought up to HR, nobody cared. With quarantine, haven't thought about it much... now there are discussions online about diversity that I want to join, but have been told not to engage by management. Did not need to be told, already know to not "break rank." Crazy defensive management responses to every negative review on here are basically how execs manage these discussions. Not well.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. I’m sorry that your experience working at Smartsheet was not ideal. From the title you provided, it is unclear what position you held. Your reference to ‘dishonest, irresponsible management’ is very concerning. I’ve been with Smartsheet for three years and have worked very closely with the executive team, through hiring, performance reviews, contract negotiations, financial audits, equity financings, etc. Throughout, I have witnessed only the highest levels of integrity and fairness. Would you please contact me and provide more detail? I can be reached at kara.hamilton@smartsheet.com or 425-324-2254. --Kara Hamilton, VP Finance & HR

Pros

Big market opportunity and first-mover advantage.

Cons

** C-Suite lacks basic qualities of leadership, and human decency, white-male dominated and patriarchical view that favors men and croneyism (2 women that are stunted in impact), zero accountability or empathy **croneyism at the top results in lack of leadership or guidance in core functions like marketing and strategy ** no strategy and presenting it to employees one time and giving a 1 sheeter does not a strategy make ** Terrible environment for women - female leaders are afraid to provide feedback because the males in C-Suite have made it unsafe to do so. ** Board that does whatever the CEO says including appointing his former college football teammate despite his involvement with rampant sexual misconduct claims while CFO at former company ** Feedback is a one way street from C-Suite and their SVP minions as"performance management " resulting in layoffs instead of providing real feedback and coaching ** Lots of B players ** All the good people are looking and just biding their time until the market improves ** No real actions to support a culture of inclusion, real DEI or women ** No product innovation for years and none on the roadmap ** competitors are running circles around you and you are too confused about who you want to be when you grow up to actually notice

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It is the feedback raised here and in similar channels that helps our leadership team learn and do better moving forward. I’d like to address a few of your key concerns and encourage you to reach out to your People Business Partner to further discuss the challenges you’ve outlined. I acknowledge that we have learned and grown a lot in the weeks and since the appointment and resignation of our latest board member. I’m grateful that Smartsheet is a place where employees deeply care about our culture and feel comfortable expressing their opinions. As we do for all board appointments, a robust recruitment and vetting process for the skills and experience we needed to add to our board was conducted. In listening to employees like you, it’s clear we need to improve this process and incorporate more diverse perspectives across the organization. Just one step here will be my involvement moving forward in our board candidate reviews. We are actively addressing the gaps that have come to light, keeping you updated along the way. We are simultaneously operating in an economy that requires us to adapt across the company to ensure we continue to fulfill our mission to empower everyone to drive meaningful change. As part of this strategy, we are managing performance more rigorously and evaluating hiring pace in select departments. We believe these actions are key to make sure valuable time is being spent on the development of our teams and employees who are meeting and exceeding expectations. We appreciate our employees' patience as we work through this chapter at Smartsheet. We know we don’t always get it right, and I hope the actions we're taking can play a part in how you continue to evaluate your experience at Smartsheet. Again, I hope your People Business Partner hears from you soon and I’m grateful for your feedback. – Megan Hansen, Chief People & Culture Officer
