Pros

-RSUs (that is, until the price of the stock has been dipping as of late) that's really it

Cons

-toxic work cultures in several departments perpetuated by their leadership who are bullies and run off of fear, namely sales and support. it's known widely but there seems to be nothing that can be done about it. -leadership is predominantly white and male. -the DEI director is quitting after only being with SMAR for less than a year - let that speak for itself. SMAR does not have a true commitment to diversity and inclusion and would rather pay lipservice to their "attempt" at doing so. -there is no space for upwards mobility. when asking leadership for this, you are told you need to "forge your own path" despite what HR will promise you during your interview/onboarding. -when asked for compassion/understanding for deadlines when our team was understaffed by several positions, you will instead be met by formal write-ups and documentation of your "under performance" and "not supportive" attitude. -high turn over rates -several roles across departments are undervalued and underpaid what is market rate -work/life balance is non-existent and the pressure is high to maintain good standing with KPIs.

Pros

- People in IC roles are usually nice - Some of the direct managers are nice, but it's a roll of the dice depending on the team you're on - Interesting and challenging work to upgrade legacy tech stack

Cons

- Senior leadership does not care about employees - Fake commitment to DEI from senior leadership - Hiring in and promoting only white men with nuclear families to the highest levels (or if you're not a white man, you must be willing to uphold that power structure to get promoted) - Mediocre pay - Senior Product & Engineering is full of bullies - Nothing brought up to HR is ever attended to (from personal experience and issues shared from friends) - Management gets nearly zero training, especially on creating an inclusive workplace - Expectation to deliver projects to dates the team had zero say in, that the product team just says "get it done" without knowing any of the technical requirements and before project scoping - Will not publish diversity numbers - Racist & sexist comments in meetings and Slack threads *constantly*

I’m concerned to hear you describe such a negative experience at Smartsheet. While we can’t speak to any specifics when it comes to HR issues (due to privacy and confidentiality), I can assure you that we take seriously any and all concerns that are raised—including investigating and taking corrective action as appropriate. This perceived lack of transparency is a common challenge, as we are limited in what we’re able to share broadly. If an employee has concerns they don’t think are being addressed, I encourage them to share them via the feedback mechanism they are most comfortable with, whether that’s their manager or their People Business Partner. Although we don’t currently publish our diversity numbers externally, we do update and share this information internally on a regular basis. Much of the DEI work we’ve done in the past year has been laying the groundwork for the more visible and tangible work that will follow, which includes expanding our DEI team to better support that subsequent work. This area is a top focus for Smartsheet, and all of our senior leaders are deeply invested in (and held accountable to) this work. We’re committed to building more diverse teams and are addressing that at all stages, from attraction and recruitment through to hire and promotion. We’re focused on expanding our existing employee and manager unconscious bias trainings, and have built an unconscious bias checklist into our talent processes for hiring and performance management. This work is ongoing, and I’m confident our efforts will help us continue creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment at Smartsheet. —Megan Hansen, Chief People & Culture Officer

Pros

At this point, not much is left... I suppose my coworkers are good but even that is changing.

Cons

Where to start.... The engineering org has had an entire leadership swap to toxic, overbearing, undereducated (about the pitfalls of the current system), uninformed Amazon wannabe cronys. I've worked here for years and the culture has entirely washed away over time. Management has been overheard saying they don't care about Glassdoor reviews, well shoot, here's another bad one for the pile then. Management refuses to be accountable for their language and actions. It feels as though they don't care about any of the people, old or new, at the company at this point. They simply care about money. I get it, but it's so sincerely sad to know what used to exist here. The details: -Hiring from within simply doesn't happen. -Compensation is low compared to the industry, and while previously this came with the understand of a good work/life balance, that is no longer the case. -Work life balance depends on if management has lit a fire under your team/pillars butt, if you're on call supporting archaic systems with slightly less archaic alarms, and what the current marching orders are. -Management is a joke and doesn't manage, they schmooze with the colleagues and other higher ups to look good and push work down onto their employees. -The company is severely lacking in DEI and it has only gotten worse as they've focused on improving it from where I sit. -I once regarded Mark Mader as a good CEO, but I fear he truly has changed. The fact is he knowingly and willingly allowed all of the above to happen speaks volumes. If you're considering working here, the ship is sinking, don't do it. If you're reading this as a current employee I encourage you to speak up and post your own review, good or bad.

It is disappointing to me that you feel this way about your experience. Change and the desire to continuously improve is fundamental to any organization that wishes to grow, serve, and have meaningful impact in a sustainable way. This can feel unbelievably difficult at times. As we've grown from a team of 6 to 1800, the culture, processes, and what's required to serve our customers at scale has had to expand and adapt. Are we perfect in everything we try? Nope. But the process of pushing ourselves to try new things in pursuit of our goals is a requirement. And we do so with our values in mind. Toxic environments are void of respect, duty, and an awareness of others. Many members of the team have shown awesome grit and commitment, and I am so grateful to the team for this. Regarding your comment on DEI, we do have room to improve, and have made several commitments internally and publicly that we're addressing. As of this week, we're in the final stages of hiring a leader to oversee our DEI efforts. Hopefully you are able to elevate from the tough spot you are in. If I can help, let me know. If you have specific feedback on what can be done differently/better, let me know that too. - Mark Mader, CEO of Smartsheet
