Pros

-Great product -401k Match -Great Coworkers (before they all left because of the toxic work environment)

Cons

-You can work your butt off day in and day out, and they will still hire new talent from outside rather than invest in their employees who are highly capable and promote from within. -Turn over rate is through the roof -Pay is not competitive -Horrible experience with the HR Team, don't expect support on that front -The quality of support has gone massively down hill, and fast, after they decided to outsource basically 3/4ths of the support team. Customer experience and quality used to be number 1, now it’s about getting replies out no matter if they are wrong/ridden with spelling & grammatical errors.

Pros

When I first started at Smartsheet I loved everything about the company. Everyone was deeply invested and we were moving forward during a very exciting time. Benefits are still great, everyone has equity and the company just went public. Great product and I think the support team still provides world-class support to customers.

Cons

Having said all of that, most of the people that made Smartsheet a success and a great company to work for are gone. Now people are being hired into the organization above the real movers and shakers , causing many of them to leave and killing the culture. I still talk to lots of friends there. All areas of Smartsheet are declining. The really smart people are leaving and the company has completely lost its culture, with boot-licking and back-stabbing becoming more common. This is across mostly engineering and support, but I hear rumors from every department.

I’m glad to read that you still believe in the product and services we deliver for our customers. It is absolutely true that Smartsheet continues to grow and evolve, and that being a public company requires new ways of operating. A team of 100 communicates and engages differently than a team of 1,000 (not necessarily better, I should add, but differently). But living our values, operating with a growth mindset, and taking the initiative to contribute meaningfully does remain our goal. If you attended the all hands meetings and heard me repeatedly describe how each of us play a role in developing and maintaining culture, hopefully that is something you can carry forward to your next company. I’ve been here for over a dozen years, since the beginning, and I remain dedicated to empowering our team to serve one another and our customers to the best of our abilities. Best, --Mark Mader, CEO

Pros

Work life balance, free snacks and catering events, transparency throughout the company on how it's running, and what's coming up.

Cons

There is absolutely no checking behind management for accuracy. People can be fired because their teams do not like them personally. There's is little to no fact checking done from HR to validate the claims of performance are real. The HR team, though they say are always there to help, does nothing to actually try to absolve concerns. Everyone is so focused on growing the company that they have completely lost focus on existing people and boot them out for the next best thing.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you appreciated the organizational transparency at Smartsheet -- we agree it is vitally important for employees to feel connected to our mission and goals. We are not in a position to extend this same transparency to our team on individual employee performance issues because we consider them to be private. We’re sorry that your perception was that HR and management weren’t communicating or validating important personnel decisions. We believe that perception is largely the result of protecting individual right to privacy, not the absence of an evaluation process. Our HR team works closely with our staff and managers to provide direct guidance regarding performance, and management does not make employment decisions without review and input. --Kara Hamilton, VP of People Operations
