Pros

This place is one of the worst places I have ever worked. After being out for 4 years I have so much more perspective on how a company should actually be run if they care about their employees. SmithBucklin does not. It was regular to discuss panic attacks and talk each other down, however there was no support from leadership. I was given a single consolidated job previously assigned two separate people and then consistently reprimanded for needing to work extra hours outside of 9-5 in order to complete the work. Please do not work here. I wish I could give the ratings of culture, diversity, and work/life balance lower than 1 star.

Cons

No respect for work life boundaries. Nobody you can talk to about concerns. Everyone who cares has left or been fired. You will have no upward mobility. They do not promote. They hire externally. They do not have female executives, only female low-level staff. If they do have female executives, they worked somewhere else and then were recruited as an executive, NOT as a worker who moved up the ladder. Also racist and blatant tokenism with BIPOC were involved.

Pros

Travel and some fun coworkers

Cons

Very cutthroat and easy to get burnt out. After a while grinding and grinding for a promotion that won’t come you start looking elsewhere. Spoke from both sides of their mouth very often. “We’ll support you during the pandemic, be patient with your teams, we value work/life balance, your job is safe” - not true

Pros

Decent benefits. I was lucky to have good managers that were competent and considerate.

Cons

If you look at the reviews, you'll see two or three glowingly positive reviews posted in quick succession after a scathing review is published. So that tells you a little about the culture here and how unwilling upper management is to address problems and make changes. Turnover is a serious problem, and for good reason. They hire kids right out of college or desperate individuals looking for work who don't know what they're getting into. Employees are worked to the bone for below-average pay, and overtime isn't just encouraged, it's expected. Work-life balance is non-existent. I worked here for two years and couldn't tell you 10 things about any of the people I worked with. I'm a social person, but the culture was just dead. And with people coming and quitting so often, I think a lot of employees give up on trying to make friends. The costs of hiring and training new people must be staggering, at the pace they're going at now. Even with the constant revolving door, opportunities for advancement are slim to none. I gave up on ever getting a promotion, as did many of my coworkers. The company's financial outlook doesn't look so sunny, either. Performance this year was lackluster at best.
