Great place to work

Pros

The purpose of my position is to help others. Helping others that help the world be a better place is very satisfying. I feel valued in my job. The benefits are pretty decent (e.g. healthcare, PTO time). Communication is easy between colleagues, in my department and between departments. Technical support from IT staff is top notch. Someone is always willing to help, on the simplest problem or something more involved - with the patience of a saint! Communications for future plans is generally shared - sometimes we, the staff, want to know a bit more up front. The culture is very nice and inviting - fun and casual interactions built into the wallpaper of the Company. Great Company values supported through what we all do and the reasons behind things.

Cons

I wish my salary was higher (don't we all?). Pressure to meet deadlines and productivity levels - the stress, admittedly is self imposed.

Thank you so much for the 5 star review! Teachers at every stage of life are critical to ensuring growth and learning, and your work is helping our clients make the world a better place. We appreciate your comments about our work environment, your colleagues who help each other succeed, and our values! They’re the reason SofterWare was named a Top Workplace 11 times! We also appreciate your comments about wanting a higher salary. We recognize the importance of offering competitive wages, so we benchmark salaries and benefits with similar roles to make sure we stay competitive. Combined with 401k matching, monthly profit sharing, as well the others you mentioned such as paid time off (including full/partial leaves for having/adopting children, bereavement, etc.), healthcare, disability insurance and more, SofterWare’s compensation package meets or exceeds the medium for similar roles throughout North America. We also offer both merit and COLA increases as your tenure continues to make sure we reward excellence, maintain competitiveness, and retain the best staff in the industry! We encourage a work/life balance (in fact, it’s one of the specific categories we were named best of in the Top Workplace awards), so if you feel deadlines and your workload are causing you personal stress, we encourage you to speak with your manager. We can work to accommodate your personal work/life balance. We can also provide additional ways, through our free Employee Assistance Program, to help you learn how to cope with stress, learn time management skills, and speak to professionals for other assistance. Lastly, we appreciate your advice to management about sharing more of a bigger picture. Our president, Lauren Sheehan, recently started sharing recaps of the executive meetings, and the members of the exec team share an update every quarter on the second Friday of the month on how the company is performing, goals, projects, etc. That said, we’ll pass your feedback on to the leadership team, since there is always more we can do to communicate more and better. Thank you for over 10 years of service to our nonprofit clients, and we look forward to working with you for many more! Sincerely, Lauren Sheehan, President

Thank you for the great review and feedback! We’re so glad you’re appreciating some of the benefits we provide at SofterWare, such as the ability to work remotely from various locations, and our summer hours program. Regarding the comment that our managers don’t micromanage, we have found that since we hire great people, we don’t have to! Our managers prefer to let our professional teams just do what they do so well. Of course, managers are there to help clear obstacles, answer questions and support them in any way they need and prefer. We also appreciate hearing your concern about the summer hour program only applying to non-critical roles. For many years, we’ve offered the ability for staff to work an extra hour each day and take 4 hours off on Friday or Monday during the summer. This year we expanded it so they can work 2 hours extra each day and have a whole day off Friday or Monday. This new expansion came from requests our staff made, as do many of the new programs we introduce. Your comment provides us valuable feedback, and we’ll take this into consideration to see if we can identify a solution for your concern when evaluating the results of this new benefit. Thanks for sharing it, and taking the time to provide all your thoughts on working at SofterWare! Sincerely, Lauren Sheehan, President

A caring company

Pros

Have held 4 different jobs through the years, including Sales, Support, Training, and Client Services. SofterWare has always provided ways for employees to grow in different directions, and funds that growth- once they find good people, they bend over backwards to keep them. The average tenure is well above the industry norm. No outside investment/ employee owned is a real thing. This has preserved the stability and culture at all levels. A fully remote environment, with active company engagement, provides an ideal work /life balance. SW has not waffled on the the remote concept post pandemic, and and continues to commit to it long term. Definitely a Family first company. Profit Sharing has been fantastic as well- and helps disprove typical corporate propaganda. I've been very fortune to have found SW, and it has always been there for me and my family. Honestly, not sure I could have asked more from an employer.

Cons

One negative over the years has been the challenge of a persistent fish bowl perspective, where some leadership has imbibed a bit too much of their own Kool Aid and has failed to see the competitive landscape. Thankfully that has improved over the last few years and the ownership has doubled down with a significant investment in product development/staffing.

Thank you for your 10+ years at SofterWare! You’re right that our employee tenure is well outside the norm of most businesses, and one of the things we’re most proud of as a company. Thanks also for taking the time to share your thoughts and observations, such as us wanting to find and retain good people. That is spot on, and we take career development seriously. It's great to hear you’ve been open to exploring new roles at SofterWare so that you can continue to grow your career here. Hopefully, you’ve found it to be a rewarding experience and a great way to learn all aspects of the business. We completely agree about the benefits of being privately owned. Instead of focusing on what's best for shareholders, we focus on what’s best for our staff and customers. This also plays a role regarding your thoughts on the competitive landscape, and our performance. SofterWare is committed to producing the best software and providing the best service, and as you noted, we’re in the midst of the largest expansion of our software development team in our history. Tied to the continued investment in the best onboarding, training and customer care teams in the business, we’re well positioned to continue to help our clients succeed. This is great news for our nonprofit and payment processing customers, and our staff. Sincerely, Lauren Sheehan, President
