Pros

Most people who work here are mission-driven and care about patients and providers, but that's about where the pros end because leadership is toxic.

Cons

- Little to no training or ramp-up support - They have a Flexible PTO but if you use it they will use that against you - If you have to deal with personal tragedies and need time off, but still keep your workload, they will say they understand and support you, but then use it against you - Leadership likes to say all the right things, but they don't care. It's all about the bottom line, they don't care about patients, providers, or the employees. - They trick you into joining the company because you want to make a difference, only to be given zero resources to do your job and then blame you for any performance issues. - Lots of layoffs, in one round they got rid of all of the people who cared the most about mental health care, in favor of more "strategically" inclined individuals. i.e. people who only care about the bottom line. - They are constantly pivoting on strategy and acquiring companies they have no idea how to leverage. Still haven't found their North Star. - Zero opportunity for growth - Anyone worth keeping is looking for an exit

Pros

A great company mission that is relatable and easy to find passion for Supportive and friendly coworkers Ideal location by Union Station

Cons

Each and every employee is heavily overworked, which would be more acceptable if the salaries weren't well below market (unless you're a software developer or an executive). The company is barely keeping up with the growth it's experiencing which puts an enormous strain on every department. Employees are regularly pushed to the point of emotional breakdowns so much that it's treated as a normality. Zero upward advancement available for employees. New positions will open within your department that you are qualified for, but recruiters will undoubtedly hire out for them and act like you're crazy for thinking you'd have a shot for the position. Expect no additional compensation after a year of employment. If you ask, the answer will be something vague like, "work harder and we'll revisit the conversation" which really makes employees feel undervalued. Speaking up about this will put your job at risk. In general, growth and profit became more important to the company than employee wellness the longer I worked there. It is shocking how little the company supports employee wellness considering they are a mental health company.

Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback on your experience here at SonderMind. While we are disappointed to hear it wasn't a good one, we are thankful to have this opportunity to hear such honest feedback. Growing rapidly as a startup in the healthcare industry comes with serious challenges for a company — and we're not immune to those challenges. We can share that we've heard you and respect your experience. We'd also like to share that in the past six months, we've made significant strides as a company to establish professional development tracks for each department, have promoted over a dozen team members with an average tenure of eight months, and are providing new means of supporting our employees' personal wellness journeys. We're always looking for ways to improve, and honest feedback from SonderMinders helps us do just that — so thanks again for sharing.

Mental Health Company With No Mental Health Values

Pros

SonderMind from a high level makes a lot of sense and is an appealing business model for anyone who is interested in joining a company hitting at high growth. A majority of the people working there truly believe in the mission statement and what contributions they can make to impact the company. Benefits are great! People Operations definitely works as best as they can with what they have been given. The culture continues to keep things light through the difficult parts of the job.

Cons

Majority of C Suite has seen MASSIVE turnover. The CEO keeps his good friends in these leadership positions (with minimal experience) instead of looking to fill those positions with subject matter experts that are suited to take on the high growth pains the company is seeing. They continuously fail up. Once a manager leaves they promote interim managers from other departments (sales to success, data to support, marketing to community) who often times are new themselves and do not have a grasp on the business or how they can make a specific team successful. SonderMind releases communication publicly boasting "we value mental health and take it seriously, so we are going to tell our employees to take time off"... they left out the asterisk here and had actually communicated (internally, of course) that most non exempt employees, specifically in customer operations (billing, customer support, care coordination) have to work still, albeit the rest of the company would be out of office to "focus on their mental health". Even though my team was not on the receiving end of that, the decision that was made to ostracize those teams was pretty representative of what they prioritize ($$). It was VERY uncomfortable to see that department get blatantly disregarded and it seems like that was a common theme in the time I worked there. Nobody could bring this up in our all hands without being dismissed or censored. All in all, this company overworks and undervalues most of their employees if they are not well liked or within the circle of "the boys club".
