-No opportunity for advancement: when I had been at Taxware for about a year I asked my boss what my next career steps were at the company. He laughed in my face.
-Workers are ignorant and apathetic: people come in between 8:30 and 9, take an hour to two hour lunch, and then are out the door at 5 on the dot. Workers regularly sleep at their desks with no repercussions from management.
-Salaries are abysmal: I was in the 3rd percentile for my position, controlled for experience. Raises are negligible.
-Turnover is extraordinarily high: college grads stay long enough to acquire skills and then leave for a more challenging and profitable job. Because knowledge and skills leave the company at such a rapid pace, it's hard to work on long term projects across departments.
-Serious disconnect between execs and the workers: because execs are so highly paid, they seem oblivious to the dismal salaries and dearth of opportunities for entry- and mid-level employees.
