Pros

Commission is a good way to earn extra money. Good people to work with mostly and opportunity to learn the retail business.

Cons

Bad upper management who lack in business knowledge and training. It's almost impossible for the bad workers to get fired and you have to do their work for them. They lie about promoting and raises.

Pros

Can be a fun environment. You can learn a lot of valuable information about wine and spirits and interact with fun customers, most of whom are in a really good mood and happy to be shopping with you. You are well respected if you can help the store meet its sales goals.

Cons

There can be lots of micro management. The insurance benefits are minimal and there is no 401K. Every Spec's is a different animal, all dependent on the manager. Some of the stores make you abide by nonsensical rules, such as, if you wish, you can clock out and eat lunch off premises (30 minutes) but you cannot clock back IN until the 30 minutes are up. At no location are you paid for driving time to tastings or reimbursed for gas. You are never given goals or reviews.

Pros

Not a difficult job at all. Great interacting with customers. Your earnings are dependent on how hard you work. Employees are treated with respect and are praised for a job well done.

Cons

Only bad part is having only a few Saturday's a year, but this is retail and that is when you have the best opportunity to make more sales.
