St. Charles is struggling with how to manage itself, and senior management often makes decisions that are not supported by sound logic and collaboration. They made an attempt to acknowledge this by hiring a process improvement consultant, and measuring employee engagement. However, both of those efforts have fallen short in showing sincere respect for those doing the work. At first sign of declining engagement scores, St. Charles abandoned that program. Many employees saw this as a betrayal of their commitment to the workforce.

Poor relations with middle management and caregivers. Difficulty with lateral job pursuance, in part to union contract language. EPIC EMR system purchased compromised patient care with massive budget cutting.
