Pros

There is currently no union to get in the way, so the relationship between everyone is very good. If you are an engineer working with the shop floor, you will find it is pretty good (as long as you don't come in with the arrogant attitude that you know everything - believe me, you don't). You will get some basic training courses in the first few years which will help advance your understanding. The pay and benefits are middle of the road, but fair. Work life balance is good, but will vary depending on where exactly you are working. The place is clean and well organized for the most part - not a dingy hell-hole like some industrial enterprises. There is lots of parking.

Cons

StandardAero is running on its reputation from the past. Since its purchase by Dubai Aerospace Industries, it has lost its engaging culture. The Winnipeg management team, once responsible for the running of the company has been replaced by a distant bunch in Arizona who only see Winnipeg as a line on the corporate balance sheet. The company is now al shiny on the surface, but rotting from the inside out. The way employees are treated varies greatly from business unit to business unit. If you are a young engineer just starting out, you are not going to get a lot out of your time at Standard as they have no system of mentorship. You will spend your time reading manuals written by the engine manufacturers and implimenting what they say. Not much room for real engineering. Work here if you don't have a better option, but keep looking. There really is a reason the turn over rate amoung engineers and technologists has been so high. The rate is so high in fact, that the company has initiated a program to try and address this, but my SAL friends say it is the usual SAL HR program: flavour of the month.
